Odd 075 mounting ring/bracket

This 075 has an odd mounting bracket. Like it would mount where an Le5- whatever would fit.

Does anyone know if this was a common item? Possibly for speakers outsourced by JBL?

A couple years ago, I was looking for horse shoe clamp style rings for 075. But I could not find them. So I purchased square mounting rings for 077 and attached to 075. It looked exactly same as in your picture.
I have seen 075 with square mounting ring elsewhere. I thought JBL was making that style of 075.

The older "clamp" style bracket usually had 3 holes for the mount and the newer style, same as 077, had 4 mounting holes. There may have been a period of overlap in production because I have seen 075s with this style mount before.

I took a picture to show another thing that struck me funny. It does look like a factory mount to me as the holes usually containing the red wax seals are not big enough in this other speaker.

There were probably a bunch made and I just never spotted it before.

I have one just like this.

Odd thing is that even though the frequency response is about spot on with my two 2402s, it is about 3 dBA more efficient. Maybe just normal production variation?

if they are alnico versions, could it be a magnet strength (gauss) issue also?

If you are referring to my post about the 075 being about 3 dB more efficient, the two 2402s were just remagnetized and checked out by OCS this year. The 075 is original and has never been to OCS.

the horns for the alnico and ferrite are DIFFERENT and not interchangeable due to the depth of the diaphram recess AND the locating pins.

The one that doesn't have the "wax seal" space belongs to the ferrite 2402H. So does the mounting flange and the LONGER flathead black phillips head bolts. Betcha it doesn't fit all the way down onto the magnet too...:)

The difference in DB is probably because of improper clearance. Switch the entire horn assemblies and retest.

If you bought them off ebay somebody frankensteined them.

The one in question (with the longer screws and mounting plate) DOES fit down all the way to the magnet, and definitely seems factory.

This leads me to believe, that maybe someone stuck an 075 foilcal onto a 2402H.

Thoughts?

Hardly likely as 2402s are black with a silver cone.

You have an 075 that someone put the 2402 horn,flange and bolts on. And probably sanded it to be raw like the 075. I have polished a few in my day. If you look close some of the black paint ( or green if it was the traffic version ) is still on the horn sides...:)
