I know JBL says that the 2206 is a direct replacement for the 2204, but can anyone speak to a difference in sound, authority, extension... Thanks for your time.

Which way are you thinking of going?

I am currently doing this exact study for a mid-bass application, 80 -1200 Hz. I just got the enclosures done last weekend, 2 CFt tuned at 50Hz.

I know that's not an answer, yet.

What is your application?

The question is for a friend of mine that is planning on matching a 12" MB with a 2123. His plan is to run from 100 to 350. But on another note, how well do both of these speaker reproduce music/voices up to the 600 Hz range.

I also plan a similar setup, but plan on using a E145.

Have you had a chance to do any experimenting yet?

Voiced very close.

2206 gets louder.

The 2204 was the intrim speaker between the 2202 and the 2206.

It had a short run before the vented cooling gap technology was introduced in the 2206.

It has a massively long coil length that will handle lots of power. The extra coil weight may translate into not quite as good dynamics as the 2206.I have not done that kind of listening comparison on these speakers.

Its a good speaker and I believe the recone kits are still availiable.

I wouldnt hesitate to use it.I guess its just a matter of what you can get you hands on.

Thanks. Final question is; How high can they play cleanly?

Hi,

- I think it would be worth your while to sign up to a Pro Sound forum ( & also ask your question there ) to see what some oldtimers have to say about any apparent differences between the voicing of the 2204 vs the 2206 .

- At some point in the past some touring company must have done a refurbishment of their floor monitors by swapping out older 2204s for 2206s .
- Musicians ( & the monitor mixer ) would have been able to give feedback about whether or not the 2206 is noticably more dynamic ( it'll either have more "cut & punch" through the onstage sonic clatter / or it won't ) .

- I know that one companies ( Maryland Sound ) migration from 2202s to 2204s ( in their stage monitors ) made quite a profound difference to those turning the knobs ( so I've been told ) . But then, going from 2202s to 2204s should be an obvious change in a stage monitors' voicing .
