What is the purpose of the aluminum dust cap in the center of the speaker.
If it is dented, does it affect the speaker's performance?
Can it be replaced without re-coning the speaker?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Thank you in advance for your feedback

On JBL woofers the aluminum dome is directly attached to the VC and is used to increase the HF output. In many other brands it is simply a decorative bit of glitter. Denting the dome may or may not actually affect the performance... the size of the dent will be the determining factor.
Center domes can be replaced.

Since the cap is mounted on the voice(on JBL speakers, others have it just glued on the cone) it can increase the bandwidth/extend the high frequency range of the speaker.
Yes, it can be replaced with out reconing, but carefully replaced.
Does denting affect the sound? I guess this depends on how badly it is dented. John
