JBL L100 need recap or not ?

Hi, today i have bought a pair L100 Century.
Very good sound. :D
When i remove a woofer for review a caps and xovers
i see colour brown in caps. This is normal or need re-cap ? :dont-know
Also I see that there are in every loudspeaker two capacitores of different colors (red and white) :eek:

The brown cap pictures are not original. Someone has worked on those speakers.

You should also compare all drivers and make sure they are correct.

The brown cap crossover is not original - at least it is not from a L100. The L-pads are quite different and the wiring has obviously been messed with.

Anyone here recognize that brown cap crossover and might know which cabinet it came out of?

It's been a long time since I rebuilt my crossovers, but the the brown caps, pots and the board look more like what I remember in my L100s. I can't say if the wiring is the same or not.

You might consider adding bypass caps or making a charge coupled crossover makes it really nice.

It's been a long time since I rebuilt my crossovers, but the the brown caps, pots and the board look more like what I remember in my L100s. Yeah, for me too, but this image is like all the L100's I have ever stuck my head into. The other one, not so much...

I have opened my speakers because L pads are scratchy. Having a problem buying them in my country and postage is very expensive from USA. The speakers are 30 years old: when is it necessary to recap? can this be measured? Is age a factor here because many people sell old crossovers for high prices on ebay, and they have original caps.

Rule of thumb: "If it sounds good, it is good!" Clean / change the L pads and see how it sounds. Bet it's just fine. Normally those X-over caps last a long time unless abused - decades in normal home hi fi use. And, yes you can measure them - you need a capacitance meter and will have to lift (unsolder) one side of each cap to get it free of the circuit. Any competent electronics shop could do this for you as well. But, I'd just service the L-pads and see how it sounds. Deoxit cleaner is hard to beat for those old L-pads.

The brown caps are jbl caps I have lots in my spare parts they have the same stamp markings too. The caps are old bees wax caps and if they work their fine but there are better ones out there to get that will give the speakers more clarity. I have all the L series speakers from the mid 80's and replaced all the caps in them.
