I have a chance to pick one of these up for fairly cheap (maybe $40) - and while I gather they are BigBox store type JBL gear, I thought there might be some potential there. The box looks kind of ugly tho ...

I mean, worst case, I have an M&K volkswoofer that should have had a plate amp but just has an empty plate - perhaps I could drop the JBL plate amp into that and have a really nice looking sub box with a 250 watt JBL plate amp .. ?

old picture of the M&K next to my B380 to give a sense of scale ...

What do you think - seem like a reasonable idea?

Well, I got it - its pretty huge for a 12 inch sub system, and def from the Black Ash school of speakers ...

That amp will drive a 4 ohm driver.

The original ones had some issues with a bad cap, but it's possible the one you have has been serviced already or from later stock.

Regardless, if it works they are a decent enough little plate amp worth the $40.

According to the reviews that I've seen, this whole series was terrible.

I hope that you have better luck with yours. There's a service manual available online.

Thanks - I hauled it down in the media room late yesterday, but I need to get an RCA Y-connector before I can hook it up to my HK receivers single SUB out and check it out for a while.
I want to give it good test before I hack up the back of my nice M&K cabinet.

It sure is big for a 12!

JBL B380 - 20.75 x 27.5 x 17.0 (5.6 cu ft)
PSW-D112 - 17.5 x 17.5 x 19.0625 (3.4 cu ft)

You can test it without the y-jack without causing any harm, it'll just use only one of the power amps if the plate amp has two discrete amps. If it does have two discrete amps, I'd want to check each channel independently anyway.

Bottom line, it works fine for what it is, but seems to have a lot of peripheral controls mounted on the front, etc.
Its a bit more of a dull boom box that I'm used to ... so - I'll just resell it as is and leave the M&K Volkswoofer alone - it works fine with one channel of our Citation 12 as a sub, or maybe I'll buy it a Parts Express plate amp later??
