I have a pair of Sovereigns that I purchased from the original owner who claims he bought them in 1970 in B.C. They are 3 way with the 077 tweeter.
Looking through the LHF library I don't see any with this setup. I realize these were custom units so my question is when was the 077 introduced ?
Thanks in advance for any input

I don't know definitely, but I believe it was introduced in the '74-'75 time frame. I am reasonably certain that they were not produced in 1970. However since they are based on the 075, your system might have originally had the 075s and then had them upgraded.

I disassembled a horn cluster that my old boss's company installed in 1971/2 and it had a pair of black 077's with the crystal center that was painted. The foilcals had fallen off so I suspect they were the first gen 2405's when the pro line was created.

my 1971 pro catalog ( with widget's avatar ) shows the tweet but does not describe the material...

the first 2405's had a screw that held the wedges in place,I think the first ones came out around 1971 and later productions had the wedges glued on.the centers were not plastic.the one I have has a cast center made of aluminum.

If you look at the photo you will see a screw recess on the side...and the text provides the "real" impedance...so much for 8 or 16..:)

I bought my first pair of 077s in 1975. I beleive they were marketed as separate components for a few years before that, however.

I do know they were priced higher than the 075 bullets that were around for many years before the 077s were introduced.
