Hi People, The search for a tweeter for my 870B has led me to become familiar with this system

Madrid 872a is identical to the speaker system 870B speaker system
The 420Y are the biflex woofer with a tweeter on a strap across the front of the woofer.
The tweeter is a 3" cone paper made by CTS (30685) with a capacitor 6MF

420y specifications

http://www.lansingheritage.org/html/...19-8b-420a.htm (http://www.lansingheritage.org/html/...19-8b-420a.htm)

The Santana has the same LF and HF 30685-420A
The Corona used the same HF 30685.

In any case I am searching the tweeter for my 870B or 872A system
I tried the EV T-35, IMHO is bad with the 420Y
Eminence APT-80 mediocre

Next tweeters
JVC Ribbon tweeter
JBL LE-20

I thank the patience they had Zilch with me, again thanks

Some of us who have developed a critical approach to hi fi have forgotten how satisfactory some of the classic, simpler systems can be.

What are you using for a crossover?

Where are you planning to mount a tweeter?

No tweeter will sound right unless it and the woofer are harmonized using a crossover/compensation network to divide the frequencies and adjust for the frequency response anomalies of those particular drivers. And you may need an L-pad to adjust down the loudness of the tweeter, since they are usually more efficient than woofers.

You do not mention your budget, so I assume that reasonable cost is important.

If any of what I've already said is completely foreign to you, you might consider that you have bitten off more than you can chew.

Still, you could go back to the T35 using an EV x36 crossover and an L-pad.

This would not truly match the woofer and tweeter, since it is designed to be used with EV woofers, but I believe this may be the shortest route to get you back listening to music again.

I don't know what all those links have to say, and I don't have time to read them right now.

You probably should not be trying to combine random drivers. Nobody recommends that, and for good reason. Your results would be much more certain if you replicate a system already engineered by one of the manufacturers.

Maybe you don't like the Altec biflex. Not everyone does. You could combine your EV tweeters with some EV SP12 woofers, although they really should be in a larger cabinet. SP12B's would be less expensive, and may work in that cabinet. If you need to use those cabinets, perhaps you could find a pair of Altec 414's and pair them with some Altec 3000 crossovers and tweeters.

In that cabinet you could also use the JBL D123, LX-2 and LE20. These components might be the easiest to acquire of the three systems I've mentioned.

Well, most of us speaker DIYers have probably at some time in the past done what you are trying to do now; I certainly did, and was immensely pleased with the result. So, I wish you success as you continue your search. It's just that I did, and at not very long delay, get to the point where I took seriously the advice to build an already-engineered system.
