4311 - Score!!!

Hi guys, Just picked up a pair of 4311's off craigslist for $50. All drivers seem to be working properly, need new grill cloth and cabs could use a facelift. Both tweeters are dented but doesn't affect sound. Foam around the tweeters(not the surrounds) is almost gone, what is that for?? see pics.

Man that's an old, tired looking tweeter, rusty screws and all. But for $50 you still got your money's worth.

Just removed drivers. The midranges and tweeters are correct, The woofers are slightly different, 2212 and 2213. Are these compatible?? Also, when removing the woofers 3 of the screws seem to just spin and I had to sort of pry up on the woofers to remove them, any suggestions on getting a tight seal when replacing.

2212 = original to 4310 / 4311
2213 = 4311A

You might check the polarity, I'm not certain if these are identical.

Foam around the tweeters(not the surrounds) is almost gone, what is that for?? see pics.To mitigate diffraction effects. Replacements are available from JBL Pro Parts, but leave the original backing in place; the tweeter wires are behind there, and unless you know what your're doing and are very careful doing it, you'll very likely damage them.

The woofers are slightly different, 2212 and 2213. Are these compatible??2212 = 123A-1, 2213 = 123A-3. They are different, but compatible. 2213 is inverse polarity, I believe. Confirm with the 1.5V battery test.

You might need to replace the t-nuts, the teeth that bite into the wood may have become bent or broken. If the wood's chewed up, I've used a side-entry t-nut to replace the OEM (see pic).

Didn't see the tags on the back. The 2212 woofer came from the 4311 WX,
The 2213 came from the 4311 WX-A.

I've also had good luck using wood epoxy (bondo)
