I picked up a bunch of pro series stuff on the dirt cheap yesterday and found one of the 2440's has a cracked phase plug. I was under the assumption that all the driver needed was a new diaphragm.

Anyway, I removed the diaphragm and it looked good had a DCR reading of 8.1. However, I did not get a DCR reading when I re-installed the diaphragm. It was then I noticed there was play in the phase plug.

Is this something that can be fixed by sending it back to JBL for a total rebuild?

TIA

I have repaired a few that did this - get some good 2 part NON METALLIC epoxy and make sure it's lined up correctly.

Also check the throat - this took a fall at one point.

The throat is not cracked, go figure.

I'm not sure if the epoxy fix will be an option. When the phase plug was damaged the tabs to center it ended up in small pieces.

I'll probably toss it on eBay down the road and let someone else deal with it.

Thanks!
