Yes, but nothing, in this moment
In France, this louspeakers are very rare (and we haven't dealer)

Oui, mais rien, pour l'instant
En France, les CAR sont ultra rares (et il n'y a plus d'importateur)

Merci

Philippe

Do you mean the ancient full horn speaker Hartsfield (http://www.audioheritage.org/html/profiles/jbl/hartsfield.htm)?
What is the meaning of CAR in this context?

Philippe, this is a JBL, not a TAD forum.:) Why don't you ask CAR?

CAR don't speak regarding the LS, just some words...
and regarding the crossover, secret secret...

What is the dissappointment in the sound of your Hartsfield copys?

The Hartsfield speakers although a revolution for sonic quality during that era are not great sounding compared tp todays expectations.

Where did you get the plans for the units that you built?

Are you sure that you followed the construction values on those plans?

No errors in your copys?

In the Classic box John originally used the E145,2440 and a custom built crossover.

Those speakers proved problomatic to obtain so the switch was made to using T.A.D. componets.

Tell us what the dissapointment is verses your expectations.

You may have created what the Hartsfield is supposed to sound like.

I will add that they sound the best using the 150-C driver.

Better low end response and reproduction.

Bonjour,

I have a copy of genuine blue prints and japenese plans http://membres.lycos.fr/hartsfield/page1.html

The e145 sound good. :)

I have a dissappointment with my 2440, the sound is "nasal", not "chirgucical" (not easy to describe) :(

I think to use a 2450H, just for a practice.

But the problem is, may be, in the crossover, i will use a Behringer DCX2496.

LS ?, crossover ? The one or the other one, may be both :banghead:

Best regards,
Philippe

I have a dissappointment with my 2440, the sound is "nasal", not "chirgucical" (not easy to describe) :(Oh, so it isn't the cabinets and the bass response that you are dissatisfied with, it is the midrange sound?

Here are a couple of things to consider.

The 2440 driver is a pro driver. I assume you bought them second hand. If so it is quite possible they are not working properly since most pro drivers have been abused... of course buying a "red wax sealed" 375 doesn't guarantee proper functionality either. Did you send them back to JBL and have them rebuilt? Did you at least put new 2440 diaphragms in them?

The second issue is that the horn used in the Hartsfield does sound a bit honky and nasal. You may simply not like it's sound. Changing drivers may help a tiny bit, but adding an equalizer may be a bigger help.

Changing crossovers may help too, but I think your problem is more fundamental.

What horn are you using on the 2440? Are you sure the nasal sound is from the mid and not the woofer? There could be a peak in the mid horn you are using. I prefer the horn/lense combination like used in the original Hartsfield.

Mr Widget : My 2440 are second hand but they are coming from 2 differents sellers.
No, they haven't rebuild in a JBL dealer. The dia are ok, same resistor and they are clear.
I will try a 2450H

Paul D : Is use genuine horn and lens http://www.audioheritage.org/images/jbl/extracts/085-2.jpg

One day, I listened to Hartsfield with loudspeakers Monacor (?!) and it was very pretty...
