JBL 4645

I remember seeing a sub bass speaker that I saw around the late 1980’s in Hi-Fi store that had four different ports that could be inserted into the sub speakers’ enclosure.
How does one go about making this type of universal of switching ports around for lower response with diy sub bass building?
Also I was reading though the JBL library late of last night and one subject that grabbed my attention was this.

Now I know its turned to low of some much and the port length whoa 30” long 9” wide, nice. Guess this would look nice with JBL 2235H loaded into it??
Is the port on this design acceptable enough or how would you go about outfitting it so it can have the port removed and replaced with different size without any hassle?
