View Full Version : Restoring 4430s? What to look for - how hard?

I have found a pair of 4430s that look interesting. They are a bit scuffed up. I cannot tell by the pics but they look like they could use some work. Still at $800 - maybe worth while.

How hard is it to get parts for these things? They built them about the longest of any studio monitors I think.

What should I look for in potentially restoring these beasties? How hard are they to fix up? What problems are there that I should be looking for?

THanks

If you want some 4430's to restore, get in touch with Rigged down that way. He found a pair locally for a lot less than $800, and it didn't sound like his better half was too enthusiastic about him buying them.

Surround rot is the first thing that comes to my mind. Like you said they could be anywhere between 9 and 20 years old. If they are studio maintained they may look like hell but the drivers have probably been kept up.

I know there has been a lot of talk about the crossover switches going intermittent.
