I got these today on a whim, I guess they need diaphragms, I looked at them and they seem alright here's a picture; no cracks or holes;

at least one dia... might figure out what to do with them before sinking
cash into a new pair ( could go 8-16 ohm nominal, 2440 or 2441 diaphagms,
etc... depends on what you'd use them for/with).

Both diaphragms show big-time stress/metal fatigue....even though they still "work". Just a caveat.

The best, most cost effective choice for JBL replacement diaphragms would be the aquaplas coated D8R2450SL, D8R2452SL($200) or D16R2451SL($198)

Aluminum D16R2440 is $240, D16R2441 is $272. Not as durable as the ti/aquaplas units.

If you're after authenticity, by all means go for the the original spec. If you want better value/performance get the newer units.

Sounds like both are blown. The lower picture looks blown by the looks of the suspension.

Aftermarket diaphragms are only better in one regard....a lower price.

If you want JBL performance, you need JBL parts.
