Hello

Did someone tryed to upgrade xpl 200 crossover in adding by pass or so ?

I've been watching the XPL related posts for years, I don't recall any x-over upgrade posts. We don't even have the schematics for the original version, only the second version. We do know that the caps are already bypassed, and that many of them even have two bypass caps.

After taking apart the stock XPL200A network and measuring all the DCR values and then pricing out charge coupled networks I came to the conclusion that they didn't warrant the effort.

Sorry 4313B ,

Do you mean changing some caps etc ... would not make a real change and there will not be real added sound quality ?

I think they could definitely benefit from charge coupled networks, I just didn't personally pursue it due to time, size and cost.

If they are going to be your "last pair of loudspeakers" then it is probably worthwhile.

I would probably look at building them external.

In fact I realized when buiding a charge coupled network fro my 434x ( clone copy of "John W" nextwork , thank's to him ) , the result was very good with a lot of details and clarity .

Now My 250 clone using 093 and aurus cantum tweeter and xpl200 network bi amp made good result with a big improvement on the tweeter side versus 035ti but I feel There is something to do with the network !

I think I better wait for someone who will build an xpl charged coupled ; I can only make soldering but unfortunately not the network schematic !

Hello Gerrard

It's not a big deal to figure out how to do the conversion. All you have to do is double the capacitance value and then double the caps. You end up with 4X the initial value. So for C1 75uf you would end up with 2 150uf capacitors in series with a 2-3 meg resistor tied to the +9 volts on the battery. The battery negative goes to ground. You repeat this for each capacitor except the small value bypass caps. The XPL has 2 bypass caps one polypropylene the other polystyrene.

As you can see taking all the values and multiplying them by 4 makes for very large and expensive capacitor banks compared to original network.

Give it a try we will help you if you are not sure.

Rob:)

Thank you !

I may have to consider rebuiding a new crossover due to the reducted size of the Xpl I am afraid this would be difficult to add the requested caps ! but I will think about it .

By the way  :

AS I am bi amping , I am not sure the path used for bass amplification is direct or if it goes thru on or 2 components ?

Would it be better to connect directly the bass speaker to the bass amplifier instead of going thru the crossover even used as Bi amp ?
