Hi All,

This is my first post in the forum, though I've been lurking for many years. Just like most of you, I'm a big JBL fan and have owned quite a few starting in the late 80's as a teenager.

I'm currently looking to my first DIY projects involving vintage drivers in a high-efficiency system. I'm eyeing the D150 woofers for the lows.

Is is still realistic to get clean pairs of these vintage woofs? or would i be better off looking for more modern alternatives? Is there anyone or any place here in the US where I can possibly source these drivers? HOw much would a used, clean pair cost typically?

I will appreaciate all inputs from all experts here. Thank you very much in advance.

Cheers

I make no claim to being an 'expert', but you might be searching for quite awhile, and shocked at asking prices.

You might have more luck with something like a K145 or E145 (also
no longer manufactured, but more plentiful and repairable ... at least
the E145 can still be reconed with factory parts). I believe these could
be considered 150-C descendants. Others will likely chime in.

D 150 speakers ???????????????????????

Do you mean 150-4 or 150-4C speakers?

Da Grump posted pics of the 150-4C units.

JBL never made a D150.

They did make a D15,is that what you are looking for?

The 150-4 and 150-4C are expensive critters

Grumpy and Oldmics,

thanks for the quick response...you're right about the model numbers, the ones I believe were used in the paragons....:)

.......so you're both basically saying this will be a long and expensive search...I will consider the E and K series then...but, hope I get my hands on the D's...

cheers

Might poke around here:

and get a feel for what was available, and what was used together in systems.

Easiest (and maybe cheapest) place to find E145s is in the Caberet 4628B cabinets. These were intended for extended range for keyboards (though they certainly weren't tuned for it) and I don't know that any of the other Caberet series used these specific woofers. I believe that the E145 is also used in one of the high-end JBL systems, though in a cabinet twice the size.

These are probably not so desireable and can be had reasonably. I just got three (though not complete) with road cases and perfect woofers at $100/each. Another member here on the forum says he can get a pair for $160, so the deals are out there. There is currently a pair on the 'bay.
