Ken, I received an email from Westlake about these and they attached the following link.

Is that the same Audax midrange as used in their old BBSM12's?

Westlake used and uses many different models of Audax drivers throughout their line. I know the drivers for the BBSM8 and 6's are no longer in production. However, they found a new company that is supposed to be building those drivers under license from Audax. The BBSM 6 is Westlakes most popular near field monitor and the 8's ran a close second.

PS: I was lucky enough to find the drivers for my 8's (3 pair) in Norway last year. I bought them all.

What's the deal with the gadgets over the woofers? Dispersion control?

Must be Tom. I was surprised to see them as well.

Kind'a reminds of the foam lens that EV used on some of their dome tweeters. And the Rogers 2-way monitor that used a 12 and a 1.5" Audax dome and placed the 12 behind a 8" or so wide slot to get wider dispersion.
