change the midrange

does anyone know if the century 500 is a gold model of a different midrange.
like the 050 gold tweeter is the same as the TI 050.

if i wanted to replace this midrange wich model should i take.
i tried to get some info on this but cant find anything.

all help would be welcome.

At the very least they are cosmetically different with the gold plating. Should be the same midrange as an LSR monitor. Why would you want to change it??

there's a guy on my dutch forum that makes great modifications.
(no psycho tweak) this is for real.

but when a speaker has an alluminum voice coil it doesnt work.

so the same driver with a copper voice coil would be the answer. if this is not possible i have to sell my speakers.
i was planning to do this but i just can push myself to do so.

even an alluminium stabelizer ring gives problems.

this modification is higly debated on a dutch forum , but if you listen you cant deny it.

Maybe it's a metalurgical reason?

Sorry to butt in where I have no dog in the race, but you all have confused me. In Greyhound's thread in which he decides he's not selling his GCs, one reply insists the mid-range is what makes that system so uniquely wonderful. So what's the problem? Allergies? :dont-know

The mid in the century gold is what make it (and the LSR32/6332) special.(and the gold tweeter is what make it expensive :D)

its difficult to understand. there was this dutch inventor who came up with the idea. he was working at the dutch broadcasting corporation.

he passed on his ideas to 2 people wich one of them is a guy at my forum.

he understands this technique. i understand part of it but cant tell anybody exactly what i know.
maybe in the future.

i went to his place to listen to the modifications and it was truly beautifull.
there was a dissapearance of the acoustic of the room.
music was bigger than the system and the room.
like you were there.

but this is the same driver. so its safe to say that there's aluminium in it.
im looking for one tahts different.

its your century gold and you can do anything to it but don't you think your changing the hole design

What you heard in your friend house was another design different components, XO, room acoustics etc etc

do you think that just changing the mid will result in the disappearing act in your system in your room

envelopment is a very important aspect of room acoustics that has to due with lateral reflections and certain frequencies
