I've been watching the thread on the "Performance Series" with great interest. This may sound like a dumb question, but I am very new to this field...I see two subwoofers. How is it that you are able to run two, and what is the advantage of doing this? My AVR630 only has one subwoofer connection.

I just purchased a set of "Stadium Venue" speakers, and am considering buying at least one of the four Sub 12 subwoofers he has for sale.

Am I likely to see any significant improvement in having two subs, versus the one E150P (Northridge E Series) that I have at present?

There's no real limit to the number of subs you can run. I currently run 4. You can daisy-chain them on the same line-level cable using y-cables.

If you have a large room, or a square room, multiple subs will not only give you more bass, but will help eliminate dead spots which are common with low bass. Placing a sub near the center of each wall is considered ideal. I have 2 in front, one right behind the couch as a butt-kicker and one on the back wall.

There is a paper published by Harman:
Subwoofers: Optimum Number and Locations by Todd Welti (http://www.harman.com/wp/pdf/multsubs.pdf).
Two to four subs make sense.

Well written article. I currently use a JBL Control SB-2 and have thought of using a 2nd unit corner placed as well.

Thanks for the information. This is a very informative site! I'm setting up a HT in my basement, and will consider a 2nd sub. I think my wife would draw the line at four!:D

An excellent smattering of DIY sub construction projects, including informative information on subwoofer "deployment", was published by Speaker Builder Magazine, a spinoff of Old Colony Sound Labs. This was in the very early 1980's.
The major point which I think I "got" was the matter of subtle and sometimes not so subtle imrovements in overall system imaging and soundstage "realism" which made a strong case for using two subs.
Waaay too long story short, the performance of the two 8 ft3 subs with 2235's and 125 Hz xovers I built seemed to bear out these issues, as I never sought to try improving them further (which was rare for me back then.)
I would love to read those articles again, will have to check on SB Mag back issues or find someone who would copy them for a reasonable price.
BTW Gold Sound Labs in Colorado had similar kits & built sytems using TOTL JBL drivers including the 2235 and 2245, with some over the top Drew Daniels-grade stuff I wish I could have afforded.
