I have a chance to purchase what the seller is calling 816 a's. Are these speakers or just part of a speaker? The pics look like horns only. The asking price is $ 600.00 per pair. I wish I knew more about these pieces. Any idea's?

The 816A was a compact vented Altec basshorn, designed to be used in clusters, or where space is limited, or in smaller rooms that werent big enough for FULL SIZE VOTT's!

I happen to like 816A,s and still use four in my system. It is a punchy cabinet, and I have two of them per stack in my center stacks.

If it's just for a pair of the cabs, no drivers, $600 is too pricey.

OTOH,what can we get today for 300 bucks a box!

True. There's a quad of these cabs on e-bay with a buy-it-now of $120. Of course, if they're not nearby, then that's probably not much help.

hhmm. I guess I will check it anyway. Thanks for the heads-up. Anybody have experience with these set up in HT?
