I am going to Italy next month. I am going to try to hear this thing:

http://www.royaldevice.com/custom3.htm

On the off chance I actually get to hear it and get a chance to play my own CD, what CD(s) would you suggest?

I would want to hear that floor horn reproduce the cannons on The Overture of 1812. Preferably a Telarc CD.

Also some really well recorded jazz quartets with an actual upright bass!

And please give us a full reveiw as this has got to be the one most interesting subwoofer ever conceived.

Another one that I've tried (on Scott's system one time) is From Within by Pete Namlook and Richie Hawtin (aka Plastikman)....the title of the track is "Do Bass Drums Have Feelings?"

Far from being as dynamic as Scott's suggestion, but it has some bass that drops and rolls very very low. More of a CD to play for effect rather than to hear for dynamics.

I think the speed of the horn will be the most interesting.

I may have the Telarc 1812! I will lookup the From Within CD.

There is a part of the Sony Titanic CD Celine Dion song that gets down there. And a part of a ZZ Top song. I plan to bring those, too.

If You can, TELARC Bach´s toccata and fugue, and any good recording of Händel´s Xerxes, it has a sustained LF that will literaly shake my brick and reinforced concrete room; Also some of Virgil Fox´s, He loved to impress, I love it.

Well Im convinced ;
Those europeans are nuts !
THe Bass Horns this guy has made , 8 18"s per side , you could easliy fill the SUper dome with those things .
SEE http://www.royaldevice.com/custom3.htm
ANyway by looking at the pictures Im not sure that I agrre with his method of loading the bass drivers too much chance of standing waves in the loading box .
It would be intersting to hear 1812 or Vollenwieder when he plucks and open low C or B note .
He just hasn't thought out the loading box very well .
ANyway would be interesting to see an actual response graph on those things , I'll bet he can load down to 15 HZ no-prob .
I'll bet his neighbours can hear those a couple of miles away .
with any volume !
One of these days I'll try something that crazy too !
Cheers ...ARG

What Vollenweider cd do you think is best?

I listened to Yello - Essential today. The last track, where the woman is singing, had real deep bass too. Anyone know how deep this could be?

Reply to Yello ; RE Bass
HI Lief its hard to tell with Yello specifically because they use a lot of synthesized instrumentation , interesting thing through is that a lot of thier stuff is done with sub-harmonics on the bass lines .
Net result is that the main part might be a Low A on an 88 key piano but they have tweeked the synth to produce sub-harmonics below that .
I've seen some sub harmonic synth stuff that goes into Infrasound , sub-sonic frequencys .
Which are mostly there to shake things up !!
