First you will want to check out this link

http://www.secretbunker.co.uk/index.asp and once you have enjoyed our secret place can anyone figure why there is a Century 100 sitting at the console of a BBC installation.

I would say the other gear seriously out dates the offset driver L100...

L100 ... for me it is very obscure for that time and place.
Maybe they wanted to check out the english Beatles in scottish underground?

The magnetic field from the drivers is too near their tapes.

Probably Alnico 123A and LE5-2--not a problem.

THis was the comment that I noticed:

"All this time personnel would never see daylight, they couldn’t even shower as uncontaminated water was too precious a commodity and remember they may have had to stay underground for over three months"

scotty.

Whats wrong with this picture ?

Nothing... it looks as natural as the little 10 Watt LEAK amp did, sitting on my workbench for years.

The one with the (?) mystery tubes. :banghead:

Obviously my L100's are a lot older than I thought and should be worth even more than the market currently supports. If we peg the date of the L100s to be 20 years earlier than originally thought, it stands out as a truly great achievement.

I suspect that when the cone of secrecy imposed by the cold war mentality on such futuristic devices was finally opened, JBL got permission to sell the model commercially, at first in a modified straight line design and later in the original "top secret" nuclear war resistant format.

The foam grilles apparently were the only innovation when the L100 was "introduced" in 1970, and perhaps if JBL had installed them on the original 1950 models it would have know the Quadrex wouldn't last, and a more practical grille would have been designed.

:hmm: This raises the question: What other secret loudspeaker designs will JBL reveal in 20 years that are already in secret government locations today? :dont-know

I dunno, but see what happens when you place the cross hairs over the logo and "shoot". :)

scotty. As well as the fact that they were sharing cots...

Staff would sleep for six hours and then swap their bunks with another staff member for the next six. This was known as ‘Hot Beds’.

Splendid!

The lamp appears to be from the '80s and the L100 seems to have foam rot around the tweeter??? A recent picture of a bunker needing some debunking?

What's wrong?
Film rewinds used for 7" reels of 1/4" audio tape.
That's just wrong.

But whatever works.

Unearthed this thread by accident.
