I don't think you will be satisfied with the crossover region in a 2-way using an 18" and a compression driver. Both drivers will be far out of their "comfort zone".

Have you looked into these threads for ideas?

Depends for a 2 way yes I would agree but there are plenty of drivers out there besides a 15" that can work. You own 4430's that's going to be hard to beat using another 15" driver. You might want to look at a more modern horn than the 2344 or a newer compression driver. There are other 15"s besides the 2235 but they are damn hard to get.

What about the 4430's are you trying to improve???

In that case just clone another pair.

you can build a clone
The HF is the same as the 4430 and the lows are a pair of 2234H woofers in each speaker (2235H without mass ring, ask your reconer, he can even remove it from a working 2235H).
The networks are described on these forums.

I was talinkg about a pair of 4435

If you have the components and wood working skills (or knows a cabinet maker) they are quite easy to clone.

Anyway unless you are prepared for many trials and errors with good test gears you are better off cloning an existing design (this is a classic advice on this board, but so true)

4435...well,well.
I have carpenter friend makes me a copy of my 4430 at EUR 100 each :D...but I want something different for my Salom and the 4435 are too wide to put them :o:.had also thought of a copy of 4430 but with 18 " :applaud:.

the dual 2234H in the 4435 will be quite similar to one 18" in the bass department, and the box size will be similar (between 250 and 280L).

If you go for a two ways with 18" you will need a horn that can go down to around 300Hz, and that will take even more space than the bass box itself. Plus a horn driver able to go that low will likely need a tweeter...

If you want a 18" you have to go 3 or 4 ways (think 4345).

If you like the sound of your 4430 but wants more bass then the 4435 is the anwser.
Here is an alternative box shape with a smaller footprint:

and had seen some time ago ... very good but maybe the option to buy 4 woofer does not leave economically viable...
