Hello friends,

Someone on Dutch Marketplace offers a pair of 4412 Monitors, but when inquiring after the technical condition seller told me he replaced the woofers for a pair of woofers from a 4412A Monitor.
He stated the bass gives more punch now. As far as i am informed the 4412 and 4412a have different networks (and a different mid-high combo).
Does anyone of you know if this alteration can be done without any consequences.

With kind regards,

The woofers are the same: 128H-1

Maybe you meant 4312? Just guessing here.

Hi Pos,

Yes indeed you're right. I thought the difference was a 128H and 128H/1.
Thanks !

Giskard long-ago pointed us here:

Here's a little matrix available from the JBL (http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/Systems%20Reference%20Charts/Studio%20Monitor%20Series.pdf) site... Since Links sometimes don't survive Quotes, here's the link he refers to: Systems Reference Charts - Studio Monitor Series (http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/Systems%20Reference%20Charts/Studio%20Monitor%20Series.pdf)

Thanks for your input guys. What would i be without you're knowledge and your kindness to help me once again (and yes believe me my improved specs will detect every JBL collector's item )!!! By the way, i already own a pair of JBL 4312A Monitors. How do the JBL 4412 Monitors sound compared to the JBL 4312A Monitors ?. It is said the 128H1 is one of the better woofers JBL ever produced. Do these woofers have the same specifications as the white 128H's used in the JBL L 112's. At this moment i also have an option to sell a pair of JBL L 112's. Only the woofers need to be refoamed. Is there a big difference in sound between the JBL 112's and the JBL 4412's ?.

He probably had the original woofs wired out of phase with each other, and thought they were weak. Replaced them, and wired them correctly: :applaud:wow, the bass is MUCH better now!

Is there a big difference in sound between the JBL 112's and the JBL 4412's ?. Objective: Every publication from JBL says the 128H-1 is an exact acoustic replacement for the 128H.

Subjective: In my humble opinion, crossovers and box-size not withstanding, the bottom end of the L112 and the 4412A perform fairly similarly and both are affected by barrier placement and height off the floor. The main difference seems to be the tweeters where the "aluminized" 044 is "softer" in that it seems to mask harsh high-end raspyness in some recordings where the titanium 052ti will perfectly reproduce any harshness in the recording. That's the difference I've noticed and it obviously makes some recordings easier to listen to longer on the L112 than on the 4412A, though it doesn't make one better than the other except maybe the 4412A is more accurate and can be tamed, if needed, with EQ. The L112, on the other hand, with it's wood veneer, white cone, and aluminum 044, is a prettier speaker, FWIW!

I can't compare the 052ti to your 035ti since I only have the 035tiA and I haven't heard a 4312A. My guess would be between the 4312A and the 4412A is that the 128H-1 would provide better bass, but I've not compared them. I'm sure someone has, so I'll shut up.

As for 12" woofers, the 128H/H-1 is a fine speaker. My recent experience suggests the LE120H-1 has it beat, at least in the four-way L7.

Hi BMWCCA,

Thanks a lot for your detailed information. By the way, didn't the JBL L-112 have a 044 tweeter instead of a 077 ?

[You want the original woofs too, of course.... ;) ]

In a Comparison between my L112 and my 4312BMkII, the 128H still hits much harder than the 2213H. I think the saturated paper surround v.s. foam has its limits in that regard. The 035Tia or 052Ti certainly tops the 044 in upper end clarity, the difference between the LE5-12 vs 104H is fairly hard to distinguish for these old ears.

Thanks Brutal,

I really appreciate your input. As mentioned before i already have a pair of JBL 4312A's and i always wondered how the same mid/high combo would sound with a JBL 128H1 woofer.
