I have a chance to buy a pair of Altec model 18 speakers. They are in mint condition.they have a single driver that looks to be a duplex.I have scoured the internet and several different forums, and have found no info on these.Any opinions on these or info would be most appreciated.

Aloha Johnlw7

I have a friend who has a pair he purchased new long ago.
I have asked him if he ever plans to sell them, let me know.
Without hesitation he replied " I am keeping these till the day I die"
He is a musician and still states today that he hasn't heard a better speaker.
The model 18 uses a 604-8H series speaker.
Check out epay or other web sites as to the going price of the 604 speakers by themselves.
There is a reason they demand the high prices.
For information on the newest version of the 604-8H being made today
http://www.greatplainsaudio.com/downloads.html
scroll down to 604-8HII it is a .pdf download.

Even if you don't want to purchase them, go and have a listen.
One of the speakers on my "gotta have list" before I kick the bucket.
