Is there a number inside the voice coil former?

Here is what Speakerdave is saying and the number that IDs the fram.

Can't find my reference on this, but as I recall that is the number of the super light diaphragm used in some 604 8G's and 802 G's.

You are correct SD, this is a pic of an original 802-8G fram I showed just to help the OP to find the right place to look.

Some say the 391xxx number is nothing more then an altec code and possibly a date of manufacture indicator. The 23744 is the light fram that has been replaced with the current GPA 34647.

As hard as I try with my old ears I still can't hear a difference but others sure love the old original light frams. I have grown rather discouraged with the old frams since so many are fried right where the leads make the almost 90 degree turn from the plastic to the dome. I've only known just one of our members to effectively repair burnt leads.
