Speaker Evaluation

Hello,

I have an opportunity to buy 4 very nice 12 inch speakers. Unfortunately, they are not in cabinets so I cannot test them at the owners place.

My question is how can I do an evaluation on them for voice coil rubs? When I visited the owner today I gently pressed near the surrounds at quadrants about 1/16 to 1/8 inch and while 3 were fine, one had a slight rub.

The situation is that I need to act soon as this opportunity is only for a day or 2.

I can bring an ohm meter to test for opens the next time I meet with the owner.

At low power levels you can run signals through them without damage. I would sweep a sine wave through them and give them a listen.
