Has i have sherd in this forum i am a proud owner of LSR monitors

specifically a pair of LSR 6332 and a pair of LSR 6312SP subs

i am actually running the with a DEQX processor XO in a sub main configuration

Reading more on active XO and all the advantages thy have over passive XO i decided to go full active

so this is how i plan the set up

the deqx is only a 3 way XO but i can use the one on the sub to split the low signal converting the system in a full active 4 way
i own only one stereo amp a Mark Levinson ML9 so i went on EBay and bought a Lexicon 412 (bryston 8bst) 4 channel amp so now i have my 6 channel's of amplification plus the 2 amplified subs

Configuration

Sony CD Player optical out to Monarchy up sampler 24/96 to
Deqx aes/ebu input

balanced outputs to

high at 2200hz to lexicon to tweeter
mid at 250 to 2200 to lexicon to midrange
low at 250 to sub at 80hz to (80 to 250hz) to ML to woofer
all with LW 24 db slopes
this the original configuration as JBL planed it

it is ease too by pass the sub if not in the mode for too much bass by just a switch and would end up with an active 3 way

my biggest question is if i should stay with does cross over points for residential use specially in the low freq transducer

in the mid to high i think it is ok and the wave guide is probably designed to a certain freq

In the Century Gold Greg T had 600hz to the same midrange of course a different woofer but with the same volume

from the tech sheets the 252g woofer seem to have surround resonance at 600 hz i could try to fix this with the driver correction but it may no be wise
may be a lower freq say 500 with a steeper slope could do it what do you think

Was there some problem with the way it sounded before you did all this? Or haven't your done it yet?

Valentin

No i havenīt done it

No the system sound very well as it is
a little clinical and soft in the highs but a good sound

Its been a bug since getting into audio
i have all ready bought the new amp and with the DEQX i can do it

Active amplification technically has a lot in favor if it does not work out i can sell the amp and go back to original standards

here's my actual setup

Your system is really nice, and also looks neat!

You could try to mimic the 4435 low end by having the two woofers go down to the VLF, but only one of the two going up to 250Hz, the other starting to rolloff with -6dB/oct at 80Hz. The most difficult thing would be to lower the tunning frequency in both cabinets to take advantage of that setup.

As it is now, the 20-80HZ and 80Hz-250Hz are handled by the same model of woofer, so is it really interesting? The LSR6312SP is meant for smaller monitors. I am sure you would really benefit from running both woofers in the VLF !

I've used the earlier LSR32. They were set up for a biwire option, which leaves the filtering and frequency dividing still in the circuit, but separates the wires for the two frequency ranges and enables the use of optimized amps for the two frequency ranges. If yours are too, why not start there to see if you hear any improvement? (Since you already have the amp). Of course you will already be complicating things by having to balance the levels of the woofer and the midrange/tweeter.

Based on what I've heard, though, about Bryston electronics, I would not expect the result to be any less analytical.

i like analitical no distortion sound

pasive bi amplification is an option no maching would be neede since there are 4 identical chanels reciving the same input

but it is not using the power that i have on hand with de DEQX

i like analitical no distortion sound . . . .

I can listen to both in their place

. . . . but it is not using the power that i have on hand with de DEQX

Too many toys!!

You are right Dave

too many toys :)

unfortunately
the driver in the lsr sub driver (252F) is not the same as in the 6332 (252G) and it cant be driven to a higher freq because its has an integral xo that cant be bypassed

i was surprised at this i even wrote to jblpro
this is the answer

Sorry it has taken me a while to get back You are correct - I apologize - The last thing in the circuit is a third order LPF - it effectively filters audio above 120Hz Regards, Peter

what i could do is to use it as a complement in the sub 80hz section

thanks for the idea

Hi Valentin,
you have a wonderful setup, just one doubt how do you identify which is left and right speaker as i have kept it reverse from the way you have kept the LSR.

I have finished the cabling and have done some tests

and the result have been very impressive in terms of clarity and musicality
the system is still not yet fully calibrated since i will make the measurements outdoors and our weather and my family hasn't given me the time.

LSR are a great speakers be removing the crossover the sound has become more musical transients are very precise and it has a sense of more air also imaging has improved.

LSR drivers are very good indeed the passive XO is also quite good but now i understand what it is to voice a speaker and XO have a lot of influence in this area

hope this week i have a chance to really put some time into them and fine adjust the system.

I just cant imagine what 476be driver can accomplish it must be jaw dropping freaking out experience

maybe in the future

I find that placeing the LSR with the hi section to the inside gives me better imaging in this room you can set them up either way see what works for you

I can't see an images in your post. Perhaps you are linking to images posted on outside sites that my employer blocks?

The problem is that if you go away or change Internet companies, the picture won't be available to share with others.

Can you be sure to upload and post your images directly into the lansing site itself, so we can actually have your designs archived with your words ...?

Val is that a diffuser (cloud) I can see in the ceiling?

Stunning set-up!

Yes it is a diffuser 2 dimension QRD and absorption panels at the back of the speakers and in the center rack

since my last post

i whent and sold my Mark levinson Amp and bought one more lexicon 412 (bryston 8bst)

so it is configured

120+120+400 hi mid low plus the active sub per channel

it sound very very nice

it sound sweeter than with the passive crossovers and bass has improved

active crossovers can be tricky and Deqx is not simple but i think that it has been worth it

Hi Valentin,
I understand how you feel after it got over. i got the rotel rb980bx amps removed the Proton amp and connected the rotel the bass improved & the highs were clean. after 10 days i did a vertical passive biamp setup and the bass further improved and it sounds lot better & now i can imagine how well your setup would sound.:)

Hi TimC

I am using a bunch of older LSRs, including the LSR12P LSR32, LSR28p etc. Are you happy with the sound of the new 43s? I saw that you have the subwoofer. I considered buying one for a mini-home theater with lsr28p or lsr25p. Would this be a good match?

Thanks
Chris

Hi.

I have actually sold my LSR system due to not enough room for everything :P

The sub does a good job, but using it with anything else than the LSR 43 series seems problematic.

When it comes to ultimate performance i would say it finishes in the middle of the pack. Its a bit on the soft side, and dont have the impact that other systems can deliver. The Array sub for instance.
