you can convert your 2235H into a 2234H by removing the mass ring under the dustcap. It will play with more ease up to 1200Hz, and raise the sensibility to 96db, closer to the sensibility of the original LE15B (which is not published, but quite high).
You can already try to cut at least 3db on the LE85 using the L-Pad and see if it gets better.

Another reason for the harsh sound you describe could be the age of the aluminum diaphragm of the Le85. You can use any 242X diaphragm to replace it.

Also the LX16 is not that great. Maybe you could build a (possibly cc) version of the LX16A with better components:

And when all that is done, you can still try to incorporate a 2405 into the mix...

Mine play very sweetly ...
I had built a set of 3 way crossovers (3133 equivalents) from a design 4313B posted here.
Those were originally in a 4320 Monitor system I was working on, before I moved the parts into these L200 cabinets.
For what its worth, I started this system with 2215 woofer, along with the LE85 and 2405 tweeter I had added. I switched those out for a pair of 2235s, and when I later got a pair of 4341 studio monitors that had 2234s as the 15s, I swapped their 2234s into these boxes, and moved the 2235s into the Monitors.
These really sound better with the 2234s. (Note the black painted Zilch plug in the left port.)

More on the crossover (originally built for a previous version of this system) here -

Did almost the same thing except I used the longer horn with coated 2425 dia's, 136A and a set of 2404's ( but made adapters for the 2405 ). Check heather's thread for her mods and the one I did for mine.

I made the updated crossover in the link and it works a LOT better ( it's meant for the 136 / 2235 ) however until the oldest starts college in the fall, unlistenable due to the crap she claims is music..:(

The LX16 has a design flaw and was meant for the 15B ( or heathers 2234 ) and is only 2 way.

The upgrade path for converting L200 to quasi-L300 is documented in these forums:

2231 or 2235H
LE85 on 2312/H92 long horn (requires cutting clearance opening on the back)
N3133 equivalent crossover
2405H/077 UHF driver (requires additional baffle cutout).

Stock H91 horn works too, just not quite as well....
