Hello again to all you knowledgable folks.....

I have both the the 4408a's and the 4410a's.

When I listen to both of them this is what I found:

1) 4408a's seem brighter than the 4410a's
2) 4410a's seem a lot warmer than the 4408a's
3) 4410a'a are flatter than the 4408a's.

Are my ears correct?
Is there a reason for this?
Does anyone else have this combo?

I'm guessing that the reason the 4408a's are brighter is because the cross over point between the 8" and the tweeter is higher to make up for the missing mid range. Where as the 4410a's have a mid range and thus the reason for the warm sound with what seem to be less highs.

Thank you.

I have NEVER heard 4410s described as "warm" or "warmer than ____" , usually the term is "clinical"...those 08's must really be cold.

WOW Sab - 8 total posts and scarcastic already..you shud fit right in.

I have 4410's, thats all I can speak to. NOBODY has ever detected any warmth in them except you. I know this doesnt fully answer your question, but maybe someone else will chime in and make "coming to this forum" a worthwhile experience for you.

Thanks for your thoughts Mikey.

I too like the 4410A's very much and wouldn't trade them for the world.

Just wanted a second opinion of someone that has experience the same as I did. I have both and found that one's higher frequencies tend to be more pronounced than the other.

Take care.

I have always wondered what the 4410A's were like. I had the 4408A's and then had an opportunity to score a nicely kept pair of 4412A's. The transition from the 08 to 12 was more of an impression of the 12s being less constricted and an over all impression of effortlessness compared to the 08.
Both are quite capable of high frequency reproduction with considerable clarity.
Enjoy both the 08 and the 10, neither are bad.

Absolutely love my 4410's...I had 4412's also but they were replaced by L-166's, which I thot were better. Don't think the "10's" will ever be sold.

The 4410 ( no -A) has the advantage of nice veneer and hf & mf controls, tho a different hf than the "A" version. I use the controls to suit the room as I don't listen in a perfect studio. The "10" seems to be a brutally honest speaker, and will expose any flaw in the source line, but being "honest" and "warm" are contradictions in terms.:(

Also have L-80T's...same driver load as the 4410, but no controls and seem overly bright and a large heavy cab...they are storage queens and just a driver reserve for the 4410's.

Thanks Seawolf97, Demon and Bone215 for the awesome info. :p

Bone215, now that you say that, I agree the 4410a's seem to give a sence of less effort when reproducing music. I believe that's where I get the word "Warmer" mixed up with effort. Where as the 08a's are trying to push too much through two speakers (Still very very nice). I find that most of todays boxes produce music in a very compressed way and my reason for turning to older style speakers. Not a cheep hobby trying to find vintage stuff. Although the 08a's and the 10a's both sound extremely nice I'm leaning more towards the 4410a's.

I guess I should tell you where I'm coming from. I'm a musician, song writer, :blah:. My style of music is jazz, fusion and rock instrumentals and I use my 4410a's as near field monitors which they do a fantastic job. I also A/B between the 4408a's, 4410a's, a pair of Pioneer HPM-100's and a pair of Marantz Prestige Series to get the best mix out of them all. My final sound check is done on a pare of Realistic Mach 2's, although you're probably chuckling, the mix of speakers allows me to get an awesome mix and my final mix on the Mach's is to adjust the bass even though they are a bit sloppy being a 15", they still help a great deal.

Are you guy's musicians and do you do something similar and can you share your experience with me? :D

Thank you.

yeah im using mine as near field monitors too.
but i do mainly noise and synthesizer erxperimental stuff.
for a hobby! not that im any professional.
:o:
i love them, but im moving on now. i need a bigger monitor, a really mean machine.
(and additional to that, i will put some effort into my room too)
but thats another story.
(i will open a thread soon)

cheers,
mikey

Demon,

What kind of speakers are you looking at? Also, what kind of treatment will you be using for your studio?

Thanks.

well its very probably going to be a diy machine with the 238o horn, 2405tweeter and 2206 12".
first level will be a passive 3way system, but in time its going to be a fully active 4way (+2240??).

the room treatment, well, i guess i have to remove the coffee stains and cobwebs...
(basstraps and reasonable dampening. i dont know yet)

as i sad a thread will unfold when im getting closer to start.
cheers,
mikey
