Someone on the AVforum questioned why the Empire Leicester Square screen 1, doesn’t have them installed, and yet they are trying to flog these off into the home cinema market place some UK home cinema installer, LOL yeah right like that is going to sale like hotcakes!

I said the dbx4800 are the only ones installed not sure if I mentioned the price and how brilliant the dbx4800 are doing in the real world, performance wise!

I’d sooner if I had the money go with dbx4800, Dolby Lake is dreaming in Cuckoo-land if they think, they can flog these of home cinema in the UK. :screwy:

Go to the AVForums main page on the site where they mention the Dolby Lake, among other items as well in the short video that will have the Dolby Lake product, its right in front of you on the main page!

LAKE is one of the top end pro DSP units. You should see them in operation, the light show on the front panel alone is worth the price!!!!!

Hello

That’s one part I’m not too sure about it’s what’s inside it that counts. So is there anyone on this site that has his raked up on they’re home?

It’s like the ole saying goes you get what you pay for? I wonder how much does the light display cost.

They really are one of the best digital processing units available. They came be configured with various inputs and outputs by the cards that plug into the main frame. There is an earlier version, single rack space, not as fancy front panel, you can find them used for around a couple of thousand dollars.

Absurdo - I believe Bo and some other folks here have talked about working with these units in Pro audio locations - but - this is not home gear.

For home use, the simpler signal path is generally better.

(That means if you have a half-dozen Behringer pieces in your path the sound has been changed an awful lot!)

Heather's right, they are way overkill for home use I guess unless you have the worlds most elaborate home theater system. For home and in pro the simplest/cleanest signal path to get the job done is always the best.

YES YES YES YES

Not only do they degrade the signal eventually they will break down and leave you with no signal....maybe actually be an improvement. A friend of mine who play bass put a Behringer comp is his rig thinking "how bad could it be for just bass guitar" after a short time he realized how bad it was!

Not only do I dislike Behringer for there quality or lack of but also for there business practices of outright coping anything product that is half way decent internally and externally. With a little searching you'll find various lawsuits against them for just that.

LOL

That’s funny you should say that Heather, check out this thread over on the UK forums, I think there on different page? LOL why on earth there implementing this into the home cinema community is beyond me at that price!

Yeah I bump into UK member’s everyday that have Dolby Lake in there living rooms.:D

Most of us in the community use a combination of professional and a few DCX2496, why there must be at least 6 or 8 members that use it. Yourself for example use JBL active crossover and so on, I’m not going to dispute that.

Why would it be funny that I say that - all I have done is to biAmp, which basically frees up the woofer from being held back by the passive network.
To split my signal into hipass and low pass, I use an active crossover - Ashly brand, actually. Its an improvement over the older JBL/UREI crossover I used before. Is that digital gear? I think not.
No processors, no expanders, no compressors, nothing like that.

As my budget grows, I'll upgrade the existing gear with better pieces, but I don't plan to add more.

So you’ve being slyly switching it all around this time.:D LOL you feisty you little kitten. I personally think yesterday’s technology is a good thing otherwise it wouldn’t have been invented in the first place.

I would have liked to have the dosh to get that THX 3417 crossover/monitor last year, just plain broke at the time.

I guess ten years from now when the prices have lowered well be adding dbx4800 in the room in huge stacks!:D

And 20 to 30 years before we can add Dolby Lake, I mean at the price it sales for, astronomical!:D

While everyone's currently saying it's the ultimate in sound, in 20-30 years, when new stuff is out, they'll all be saying the Dolby sounds like garbage... :p 'Seems to be the way all the latest/greatest goes.

I’m not saying it’s the Pits! I haven’t even heard in the real world of high end PA. Someone commented is, it being used in the Empire and I said, no. LOL now doesn’t that strike you a bit odd?:hmm:

I wonder how many studios use dbx4800 or Dolby Lake.

I’m not saying it’s the Pits!I'm not either - I'd love to have one! I was just commenting on the fact that today's "audio nirvana" is often considered tomorrow's "garbage"... 'Funny how that goes...and the opposite often happens. Look at how many tube amps that were later considered "garbage" and were replaced by the latest SS stuff. Many of these "garbage" tube amps are now highly sought after.

Yeah I follow you. I don’t need to say Audyssey, oh, I’ve already said it, I still haven’t heard this device and even when the salesmen wasn’t too interested in showing me how it works first hand, should I mention the Hi-Fi store??:D

We have sold 12 Lakes to the casino's around here, and a live engineer I work with here bought his own personal one. I have heard and toyed with them a bit, not enough to touch every parameter that they are capable of....they of course, are incredibly transparent, especially considering how much you can modify the signal path...I think one of it's most unique features is being able to have different slope shapes on either side of an EQ point or crossover point. Routing, delay, and crossover possibilities are way over the top for any casual user, but it completely replaces about 22 rack spaces of conventional gear that isn't capable of doing as much. I'd have to ask the front office, but I believe they cost about $4500.00 US.

I am involved in refurbishing a historically significant club in Marin. There was significant pressure to go with the Dolby Lake. To me, it was not user friendly (unnecessarily complex) and very pricey. After much deliberation (because of my respect for the protagonist...), I instead opted for their major competitor the xta 448 (http://www.xta.uk.com/products-series4.html). I own a few of these and run into them in the better systems I engineer at festivals and better clubs. The xta 4-series are phenomenally powerful units, and the AudioCore software is YIKES! impressive.

Lucky me. Damned glad I made the right choice...

Ken, I don't know the differences / advantages with the "Clair Bros. version", but I think I know this unit, stock. I believe it is the same / nearly same iteration used at Great American Music Hall (http://www.gamh.com/) in San Francisco, a hall I'm lucky to have worked many times.

2 in, 6 out - would that be enough? Aren't your new Westlakes 4-ways? :dont-know

These are very powerful units and support a laptop control interface. Both GEQ and PEQ's are available, as well as delay, relative gain, etc. Frankly, there is nothing you can't do (ooh... double negative!) with these. They sound great in SR applications - I have never heard (nor know of) them in audiophile apps.

Oldmics - you out there? Do you know what differences there might be with the Clair version?

The amp company Lab Gruppen has taken over Lake and will be releasing a new stand alone Lake/Lab Gruppen DSP. Their latest series of amps has the Lake DSP built in.....Very cool, very expensive!
No idea on service and support of the older units though.

I heard a rumour about that takeover about a year ago.

I assume Lake knew the writing was on the wall when the trend for amps incorporating DSP started a few years back. Clever move by Lab Gruppen though, they really are rock solid market leaders now. :)
