Probably go with the 2225 or 2226, These cabs dont go low enough to benefit by using the 2235. Or try and get the original Altec drivers. If you are on a budget go with 2225/2226 and turn Peter up loud!:)

Got 3 2225's. 1 works, but all should be reconed. That's $160 ea. w/ authentic JBL parts.

But thinking about stuffing 2226's in there instead...........

2235's have a sensitivity of 93 db @ 1w / 1m ?

Got 4 Altec 515's. All need to be reconed and re-magnetized. Still
trying to get ahold of Bill H. at Great Plains Audio. Each one of the
Altec woofers was made in June of 1953, so they appear to be from the
first - or earliest series. If I can't get them reconed so they can handle more power, then I will probably sell them and look for some Altec 515-ghp's. From what I understand, they work really well in the 210's and
they can handle a lot more power. Think they're 16" frames tho and my cabinets are 32.5" wide - so that presents a few more problems...

JBL says the 2225's and 2226's recommended enclosure volume is 3 to 10 cubic feet. The 210's will have to be modified (internally) to make the JBL drivers happy. Might take some experimentation, but I think I can do it. Years ago I changed the port volume by going from rectangular slots to round holes. Don't remember exactly how or why I laid them out like I did, but I do remember doing an A-B comparison test and (to my ears)
they sounded better.

I had the original 8 Altec 515's in these cabinets for many years, but sold them sometime in the late 1980's. Along with 12 Altec 288's and 4 tar filled 1005B (5x2) horns and some y-throats.

All of it went to Japan.

I've wanted to do this for years. Finally, it appears like I will have the time and the $$ to get it done this summer.

(Except I want a new 255 hp. Sea-doo RXP-X and they're $13,000 + tax.......)

Got lots of comments from guys on this forum and the "Unofficial" Altec homepage ranging from "it will never work........" to "go for it dude..........let me know how it sounds......".

I know I'm gonna lose some of that "in your face" mid-bass that Altec is famous for (with the JBL drivers), but there will be four Altec 515's in two other cabinets. The MB-1's work from 125 to 1.25khz, so they should help out a little. Probably have to run the Altec's with one amp and the JBL's w/ another.

Maybe I'm wasting my time, but one way or another, I'm gonna give it a shot.

Are those Peavey Mid Horns? How do they sound? What driver is inside. I think it was a 12" cone. I heard them about 25 years ago in college. Very loud.

Yep....those are Peavey MB-1's. Each one has a 12" Black Widow speaker blowing into a horn. Personally, I think they sound pretty good.
For what I paid for them,.......... I have no complaints.

Recommended freq. range is 125 - 1.25kHz.

Yes, they are very loud. Need to get all the 15" woofers back in the 210's to keep up with them.
