I just recently purchased a pair of Altec Lansing Model 15's. I heard that these had an optional pedestal. I am looking for some idea of the general dimensions and how the speaker wire was feed through to the terminals on the bottom of speaker. Any Help would be appreciated

The Model 19s are the same way. You just have to squash the speaker cable under the bottom.

I can't figure out for the life of me why Altec did it that way.

here's a PDF of a manual for using these and M19s in a studio... they also mention the discriminating user in a home situation afffixing the optional bases....

the bases are a basic "picture frame" type build coated with black vinyl...

sorry but i do not know the dimensions...

The correct term for the "platform" is "plinth" ;). Size is easy, just make it a few inches less than speaker's bottom. To accomodate the wire connection, just make a small notch or hole in the back piece of the "plinth".
