View Full Version : Altec 417 - how do I tell which version?

I have two Altec 12" speakers that I believe to be Altec 417s. Both are missing their maget covers so no label infomation is available. I bought them slightly used from Dick Zicari's pro-sound company in Rochester, NY in about 1975. They have been gently used in a Music Man 212 amp sporadically for the past 32 years and are still in great working condition, never reconed or in need of repair.

How do I tell which version of 417 they are (8H, 8C, etc.)? They have aluminum domes. What was the original purpose of this speaker - guitar, PA, etc?

Does anyone have the correct magnet covers they would sell?

Is anyone interested in buying these speakers?

Thanks

Mike

Thanks for the T-S info.

Is there anyway to post pictures on this forum?

I was told they were just pulled from some Altec cabinets before I bought them.

Did some of these speakers come without magnet covers (maybe when used in factory loaded Altec cabinets)?

if you hit the reply button,
below the text box, there is a grey button that reads
"manage attachments"

hit that button and post away
(assuming the pics are within the size restrictions)

some Altecs did not have magnet covers...
sometimes this was the case with certain factory cabinets

if you can get the cabinet/system model number from
whomever you bought them from, ID'ing them may be an easier task

:)

good luck!
