View Full Version : "The worlds greatest museum"

Hi.

First: Moderators: If this is to much, let me know, but this is great!

My long time friend, Erling Neby, a long time importer of JBL to Norway has granted me the right to share this with you.

He has over many years made a collection of products he himself has imported, or has a special feeling for. He also have a very large collection of art, such as paintings and a lot of other stuff, but this does not belong here.

This Museum is "One of the kind" in the world. When people from different companies from all over the world see this, they are stunned. The room in witch all these gear is stored should has been 10 times as large, as there are much more gear to show, but no room. I could have taken at least a 100 pictures more in this room only, but time and a full memory stick in my camera did not allow it.

This is one of the pearls in the world.

Please bare with me as I only put pictures here, leaving it up to you to ask questions. I will answer to my best ability. If I can not answer I have to collect the questions and call Erling to get them.

As I do not want to call him to get answers on "one by one" questions, I must collect the questions, and ask them all at ones.

I have decided to give it 14 days, to get your questions answered. I hope this is OK for you.

The first picture is of "The man himself", Erling, holding the remote.

Here we go:

Hi Rolf,

that was brilliant. Just what was needed on a grey London day.

Where is it located ? It would be worth a visit.

Unbeleivable! Thank you Rolf, I trully enjoyed that :applaud:. I'd love to see his art collection. Are any of the amps & speakers hooked up at all??? Is this his Personal Museum, is it just for him to entertain people in the trade and friends?

Thanks again! :)

I was glad to see that the collection is not limited to JBLs and McIntosh, while he seems to have most of the important pieces from both of them, he also has some additional fantastic equipment... and what a beautiful display.

Well done. Thanks for sharing this Rolf.

It is located in Oslo, and it is a private museum, not open to the public.

Nothing is hooked up, and yes it's his personal museum. It is one of his hobbies, just like someone collecting stamps or coins.

You would not believe how many other products there is from JBL and a lot of other brands. I run out of memory on my camera, that is why there are no more picks. When I catches my breath I post the last ones I have.

Rolf
03-06-2008, 02:15 PM
It seem like some pictures have been lost. I do not understand how.

What I wanted to post was a Tanoy for corner placement and a early version of the KlipchHorn.

In the time to come, when the time is right, I will try to get another appointment and take more exiting photos of this unique collection.

PS. Erling is interessted in one more Paragon, so if anybody ... OK?

Ouch! One of those Marantz amps must have arrived in Oslo via UPS; that corner is trashed! Saul would be pissed.

I'm stunned....that's an amazing collection. It doesn't all look functional though. It would be cool if it were wired up like a vintage stereo store with a big switch console so you could listen to everything.

Maybe it's on purpose though - people like us would never leave :).

Nice collection..does he do home demos's?

Not with the vintage stuff, but he is the Norwegian importer of JBL, MC and some other brands, so any new stuff is possible to borrow at home for serious listening before one decides to buy or not. This is normally arranged true the local dealers around the country.

This video lost me at the cigar bands, but the first third was truly fascinating. Lots of vintage JBL in there (Paragon, 250Ti, etc.), plus the K2S9800, and then comes the Everest DD66000 right off the truck!

Five guys carrying them up the stairs--OMG! Don't drop them! Then the unpacking and the audition.

What JBL models do you see? Following are some peeks at what's in the background.

Hello, Rolf, and All,

HOLY MOLY, CHICKEN SOUP!!:blink: What a fantastic private museum!! I'm thinking that this is exactly the glue that holds us all together, and that we can all agree that this Gentleman's collections are absolutely stunning in the comprehensive nature and completeness!!! SACAGAWEA!!! :applaud::applaud::D:D Thanks, very much, for sharing this with us all, Rolf, and please offer sincere thanks, and hearty compliments to your friend for allowing you to do this!!! Take care, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Doc (who, of course, thought the L300's were the dog's bollocks!!);):D;)

I think it speaks volumes that clearly this gentleman has discerning tastes and I'm going to have to assume can afford virtually any equipment he could possibly want, and he chooses JBL.

Excellent vid - thank you for sharing (even if it did induce a really bad case of stereo envy.) :p

Best,

Thanks for the pictures they're great!

But I see one of the most disappointing pieces of audio gear that I ever owned the Harman Kardon ST6 turntable. I actually owned two of them they sounded very good in the beginning I was using Pickering cartridges at the time. But then the tone arm stopped tracking, I had to continually open them up fiddle around, I could get them working again but not for long. Then CDs arrived and that was the end of turntables for me.

I just wanted to inform that if someone is planning to visit the Neby museum this weekend, you should probably book in advance since there are a limited number of places!

"HiFi klubben's" premium showroom is open as well this weekend, filled up with B&W 800 speakers:

Last saturday I finally had the chance to take a look at this fantastic collection :)

I was expecting a lot of people but we were more or less alone  So we had all the time we wanted...

The first speaker was the gigantic D55000, it was much HUGE! The opposite can be said about K2 S9500 which were much smaller than expected.... but I was kind of sad when he said that the S9500 have never been used, not a single song!! The same thing was for the S3100...

But most speakers are used and not all are mint, i.e. the Paragon had quite a bit of scratches and one big wound. But it have quite a history, the first years it was placed in the white House :)

As Rolf already have documented, most "important" JBL are present, Hartsfield, Paragon, Metrogon, Minigon, K2s, E2, Olympus, 250ti, 4350 and the lists goes on.... but he's still missing a few, among other Aquarius 3, so they are interested in getting a nice pair :)

The only playing system at the moment was this one, McIntosh MC2301, MC1201 and of course E2 :)

As you know I have heard the system. It doesn't sound bad, but as the room is concrete, it sounds a little to "hard". Also at the time I heard it the system was brand new, not played in. The E2 wasn't adjusted, so I hope I can get the E2 home to really see what they can do.

Rolf: Do you know Erling personally? As far as I understood he also have a pair of E2 at home so maybe you can get a better impression there?

Tim: I didn't get very much impression of how it sounded. They were playing music I normally don't listen to and the volume was also very moderate.

Yes, I know him personally, but he has never told me what system he uses himself, and I have never been at his home.

I am going to talk to Erling in late October (about DAB Model 10+) and I can ask him ... can't guarantee he will answer about what he has for private. Private means private you know.:)

I know that he used to have K2 S9800 on Pass Labs X-1000 at home. This is a few years ago.

The sound was supposedly not very good since he had very hard walls, wich resulted in quite poor acoustical conditions.
