One of the readers stroies on the LH site:

http://audioheritage.org/html/readers-photos/kenp.htm

quotes:

"You know that feeling, like you have been punched in the chest when Chester Thompson, Phil Collins or Neil Peart ripped across a drum kit. Or the goose bumps you feel when Mark Knofler does the acoustic version of “ Brothers in Arms” and every harmonic is perfectly reproduced."

Now I have hunted everywhere for this acoustic version of 'Brothers in Arms' with no sucess. Best I can find to unplugged is Knopfler's "A Night I London" DVD where he performs on a small sound stage in BBC (I think) with violin players etc. He still is very 'unplugged' though with his electric guitars.

Any help very much appreciated.

I saw a dvd concert recently where he was doing some unplugged stuff. I think it was the Concert for Montserrat (sp?) dvd - had many british rockers on there - quite a good show. I think it was a few years ago - not sure.

Let us know what you find,

Hey - I know those speakers!!

But, not having the CD here, I wonder whether Ken was referring to the intro - isn't that acoustic? Maybe Ken made a wave file doloop... ;)

If anyone else is interested in Dire Straits / Mark Knopfler then just take a look at this site:

http://direstraits.rockmetal.art.pl/

This guys has listed every legit CD/DVD, and nearly every bootleg, concert recording - ever made. With a review of each one!!!

He emailed me re MONTSERRAT and my question: "This is not acoustic show. This is usual version of Brothers In Arms but it's with London Orchestra so it sounds awesome."

His website review.. "Greatest version of Money For Nothing I've ever heard! (with Sting on backing vocals). Also, Brothers In Arms with London Philarmonic Orchestra sounds great. Mark is doing great solos, it's one of my favourite performance of this song."

Well not the exact acoustic I was after but I must admit I am now earerly awaiting delivery of it:-)

I'm listening to the eponymous CD right now, and wonder if Ken was just waxing philosophically after the appropriate amount of fine red wine.

With the "open" (no compression) production, prominent accordion and verging B3 backup into B3 solo, and up-front trap/snare (with some Plate effects - thanks, oldmics!), he might have used "acoustic" in a casual sense.

Hell, he's only Canadian (said the Damn Yankee... ;) )...

I saw and recorded the acoustic version of Brothers In Arms on videotape, from a Satelite feed back in the summer of 1989. I have never seen it anywhere else. I found the feed while cruising around the "C" Band system I had just installed on my motorhome.

An added feature of this version is the fact they mounted a camera on the end of the neck and much of the video is watching his finger work on the strings. It is absoloutely fantastic and well recorded for an older video. This was an encore performance at the end of the concert and only Mark was on stage. There was no vocals, just a beautiful acoustic version of BIA.

The tape has a couple of flaws in it now and I would love to get another copy if anyone can locate it. I think the concert was somewhere in Britain. I believe it was being broadcast live. The reason, I felt I was lucky to run across it and remember it well.
