couldn't sleep this AM and got up and checked Craigslist at 8:30....there was this:

Stereo and Speakers - $XX

Sansui Stereo (9090DB) and 2 Wharfdale 60 speakers for $xx. Many inputs on the rear. All parts of the system work well. We are moving and it is too much weight to ship.

I answered 7 minutes after the ad , his reply was:

"Tom,
Please contact me for directions to my house and for a time when I will be here. Please respond quickly because there are 15 other responses to the ad."

The Wharfdales were nice, BUT the 9090db was incredible - like new - with owners manual, guarantee and store literature. Seller was original owner in a "street of dreams" house. He insisted on demo'ing the receiver to show that all functions worked perfectly and mused that he thought it would take 3 or 4 days to sell the set.:D.

I would tell you what I paid, but prolly would be accused of fabrication , but it was less than we spend for 2 dinners at Outback.

Discovered while carrying the speakers out thay they are "sand filled" (heavy)

Pix from the ad...

The receiver is a monster = 23x8x16 ..53 pounds...its interesting, the owner was looking at other receivers and made notes on the back of the 9090 broshure

9090 list $750 can buy for $690
7070 $439
1250 $669 (assume Pioneer sx-1250)
850 $399
650 $239

I was disappointed that the veneer needs oiling ..oh well.... :(

Yes that is most unacceptable, if it troubles your REM patterns I will be glad to take it off your hands, as, as a favor of course :D

Nice score Seawolf, I wouldnt even want to know how much you paid for it, does everyone in your Hamlet have tons of vintage gear that is in dire need of updating or what? You always come across these great deals, good for you. :applaud:
How does the Sansui sound, probably sounds pretty damn good? year & juice?

I've never liked Sansui ..but the 8080 and 9090 were different. I have an 8080 also, lots of clean power and an almost "tube like" mellowness. The 9090 (top one they ever made, I think) was 125 wpc in 8 ohms. runs 3 sets of speakers, treb/bass/and mid controls.
Was looking at completed auctions on the bay, a lesser condition one went for $565 , wood case alone $150

too many amps, too many preamps .....Oh and you should see the deal I have cooked up for tonight or tomorrow....JBL , no less ! :applaud:

isnt that worse than a door to door Kirby salesman ??

picked up this fantastic little Sony set today...7 pounds each speaker, has swinging metal wall bracket, good surround speakers ?? retail was $140/set......looks like domestic Japan product only.

will get the L80t's tonite or tomorrow, we've settled on my price .... looked thru spec sheets, they are essentially a 4410 with bigger box, different network.
