has anyone tried this combo?

I would use either the Tad 2002 or the 2435

Don't know how relevant this is--whether the problem was in the driver or the adapter, or the 1.75" diaphragm being unable to power the horn--but Widget tried the LE85 on the 2397 with a 2327 adapter and didn't like it. The 2435 is 1 and 1/2 of course. Loudspeakers Plus just recently filled my months-old order for a 1 and 1/2 to 2" adapter (about $25 each, as I recall), so they may have stock on it for a while. Holes on both flanges look like large-format JBL pattern. The ones on the 2" side are threaded--unnecessary and a nuisance as far as I am concerned, but clean castings and finishing. This adapter is not very deep, and with the throatless 2435, dispersion of highs would not be less, I think, than using a 2" driver like the 2441.

This adapter would also be useful for someone wanting to use the neodymium 3" diaphragmed JBL drivers, mated to a 2311/H93, in the 4343 and 4345 family of monitors. Crossover tweeking would likely be needed.

For mating a 1.5" driver to a horn that was designed for the JBL 375 2" throat family of drivers I would use the TAD 4002 throat adapter. It is available separately and has the correct geometry to properly load those horns.

The new JBL 3" drivers with 1.5" throats have a different initial taper than the TAD 4002 driver has so you may not get an optimum loading, but I would guess that since the throat length in these newer drivers is so short, I think you could get away with it.

I was thinking I would try and get the 2307 out of my 45's . I have the modded 2307 horns (thanks to subwoof) but the 2435 is 4db more efficient than 2425 on the 2307 and would be even great on the shorter modded horn. I dont have room on the l-pad to reduce it anymore. I'm not a xover type. so modding them aint an option ( i think Guido would chop'em off and feed them to the wolves and we aint talking my l-pads either)

you could just add two resistances on your 2435, after the existing Lpad, like this :
http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-Lpad.htm

for a 4db reduction and a 8 ohms driver the exact calculation gives a 2.95 ohms for the serial resistance and 13.68 ohms for the parallel one.

Rich,

With your skills you are far better of making a 1 inch Smith horn like the Westlake .

Other have made similar devices.

The benefit is a shorted path length (122 hertz Smith Horn) and this is a MAJOR issue of the stock 2397.The sound nice tonally but in terms of depth and imagining it wont work on the 4345.

I have been here before you and the path length is such that there is a big continuity problem between the 2122H and the horn. The results in no imaging or depth and in this respect you are better off keeping the 2307 (cut down) and padding it with a resister.

Back to the cut down 2307.

Find out the impediance of the 2435. I doubt it is 8 ohms, could be lower or higher.

The tell me the path length from the top plate of the 2435 to the mouth entrance.

The crossover filter will probably need modifying for the shorter path length to encure a smaooth crossover point (according to my model).

Another option is the P audio bum horn, its 1 1/2 in as I recall

Ian.

Edit The active crossover is not far away.

I thought the smith horn would look nice .:( However , as Ian has pointed out ...... I will not sacrifice the imaging and depth - although the latter needs more work than the former. I think I could just about do the resistor thing with some tips and the correct values.
Ian,
Good news about the active thing. This one needs to go back deqx for some TLC .

Can you PM me your Email . I cant send pics in a PM.

With your taste in music I wouldn't really worry. The 18" and a 2405 should suffice.

Bah. You've still got that fixation with lips.

Comes from getting up early on a Sunday I suppose ;)

I guess the 4003 looks like your 9800 after a good dose of collagen.

you can also try a brigded-T resistor circuit.
It is supposed to sound better than a simple Lpad resistor circuit :

The 2435H seems to be around 6 ohms at 1500hz and up:
http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=14369
(it is more like 7 ohms at 1200 ohms, but I guess the 1500hz-8000hz range is the most important one here)

What wrong with that.. ..:)

When I had my 2397's it was an interesting talking point with visitors.
