Hi all,

I'm having some concerns about my 4853-4842 system. The 4853 had to be modified by previous owner, in fact the tri-amplification process has been bypassed. No external xovers used. From the EP-8 Canon plug of the cabinets, out goes a cable (set of 3 pairs of wires, all twindled in + and -) to the amps. Only 2 of the 8 pins are used in the plug and all the drivers receive the signal from these 2 pins. The same 3 pairs of wires get twindled again at the other end of the cable on the amp posts. And then the 4842 were hooked in parallel to the same amps.

Impedance problems... Burned an amp a month for a while then decided to go with another pair of amps to reduce the load. Still in progress project.

That being said, those EP-8 connectors on the cabinets; does anyone knows the configuration of the 8 pins?

I'm guessing that the other unused 6 pins would be used in tri-amp mode, right?

I wonder if going back to tri-amp be the the best next move... :)

shortyou-if you use the jbl passive x-over it should be 8 ohms why are you burning up amps? those x-overs might have "issues" if amps keep going down. that might be why previous owner went active 3 way. if you're using them at home, i would fix the passive x-overs.....frank

shortyou-the other thing you can do is go active 2 way and stay passive between 2" and tweeter
