I need two nameplates for the grilles for a pair of JBL 4343s. I know this is a long shot, but if you know of where I might find these, please let me know.
Thanks,
Tom

Hello Tom
Did you try JBL Pro?? I remember seeing several nameplates available for some of the clasic monitors in their last misc list. Might not hurt to try.
Good Luck!
Rob:)

Tom:
A "friend-of-a-friend" claims he can make exact copies of original JBL badges. I've seen clones of JBL badges on Ebay... just not the badge I need!
I have both the 4343 and 4343B badges (one of each, not a pair). I will make a few calls this week and see if he's for real.
When I bought my 4343's, they came with a single "4343B" badge. I was able to find a single 4343. I've searched about two years for another 4343 with no success. They are next to impossible to find! :( If I can't match it up, I may paint over the "B" on the 4343B badge and call it a day. :D

Here are the monitor badges JBL has listed on their revised June 1, 2003 parts list. Part number is included:
4345 = 60176-16
4350B = 60176-15
4333B = 60176-13
4331B = 60176-12
4315B = 60176-11
They are priced in the $20 - $37 range.

Hi JBL Dog,
The JBL Badges for the Studio Monitors are screen printed on aluminum. Your "friend of a friend" is probably much cheaper, but if you want exact copies I could do it for you. As a model shop we frequently make name plates of all types for our clients. Unfortunately even under the friends and family discount plan we are a bit pricey.
I couldn't give you a ball park price without seeing one. As I recall they are black on either brushed or milled aluminum.

Since I have JBL Studio Monitor nameplates with the wrong model numbers on them, and others here on this forum seem to be in a similar situation, it seems that someone with skills in graphics could find some customers for altering these plate numbers. In some cases only one number or letter needs to be changed. I thought of trying a touch of flat black paint and maybe some Chartpak Presstype (18pt. Hevelitca bold extended - I believe) and do it myself, but I know there are people out there with more experience and expertise with these kinds of things than me.
Any takers?

Tom:
I just painted over the "B" on the 4343B badge. I'm very pleased with the results.
The one on top is the altered badge. I used Rust-oleum Flat Black (paint code V2178). The shiny part where the "B" used to be isn't as pronounced with the naked eye. These digital cameras pick up everything! It also appears something was spilled on it at one time. The badge below is in near mint condition. I will see if it can be duped.

Hello out there!
I followed the discussion. What I need is of course nameplates for 4343 too but in addition I need the frontplate of the level adjustment.
Who can help me out?
One possibility coul be if you scan the frontplate (are they mirrored?) and mail it to me. Than I can look here in Germany. If the scan is high quality this schould work.
Another possibility is that you gave me the contact of "the friend of a friend" and I try it that way:
Thanks in advance
Guido

To JBL Dog,
Any luck on finding the guy who might be able to clone some JBL Studio Monitor nameplates?
Thanks,
Tom

OK, so I just read Guido's comment on Tom's thread about his 4343s, congratulations Tom BTW, and thought I'd ask the question.
If enough people need 4343 nameplates it would make them much more cost effective to reproduce. So how many people want em and what is price range that makes them practical. Obviously $15 each would be great, but that would require producing about 100 of them.
Let me know who is interested and give me an idea what is just too much... I am not making this offer to make money, just throwing it out their to see if I can help out.

Mr Widget, Thanks for the offer. I will think about the price I would pay for a pair of these, but of course how authentic these woll lookwill be a big part of how valuable they would be. I can send you a slightly battered nameplate for a 4333B to use as a template if you decide to go ahead with this.
I will send you a private message about my price range.
Thanks,
Tom

"...but of course how authentic these will lookwill be a big part of how valuable they would be."
If I have an example, such as your battered 4333B, I can make indistinguishable copies. How valuable will they be as collector's items? Well they will be replicas and not originals.... I guess that is hard to say.
Based on the example that JBL Dog posted, I am absolutely confident that I can make an exact copy. Originally I was thinking of the earlier version that was aluminum and black, which is a little trickier to copy, though still quite possible.
Yes, send me a PM about cost etc. but let's see how much interest there is. Ideally a run of at least 10 would be a good starting point.

The last time I saw some JBL Monitor badge "clones" on Ebay they went for quite a bit of money... I think the price was around $80.00 a pair. I would venture to guess there are quite a few "badge-less" monitors out there. Also consider the all the DYI monitors out there. The small badges are fetching up to $40.00 a set..... may be worth testing the waters, Mr. Widget.... :rolleyes:

Contact Guido here on this forum. You can PM him as well.
He did a small run of repro JBL Studio Monitor plates. I bought a pair of 4343 plates from him.
