Having recently acquiring from different sources several Altec derived speaker systems including a couple homebrews, I have a couple questions:
1. It's easy to identify the horns 811B or 511B. How can I identify a driver that was mounted on a 811B that has no markings? The diaphragm appears to be aluminum and has the following markings:
9614
PT62
111793 34647
2. I acquired a couple Altec 9846-8A systems with 411-8A woofers and 811B horns. However, there were 4 ports cut into the baffle board. This is supposed to be a sealed cabinet system. I assume it would be advisable to seal those ports? I don't know if anyone has evaluated this system with the tools available today (T/S, computer modeling, etc.) to determine proper alignment of this woofer in a cabinet? It appears to be a a interesting woofer and sounded great before being removed and sent out for installation of new surrounds.
All help would be appreciated.
