A pair of the big boys just sold on eBay for $20K!

A pair of MC 3500 mono block tube amps from the late 60s that is. I doubt they are the best sounding amps ever, but they certainly are serious and quite impressive. All you 4350 lovers out there, you know you'd love a pair of amps that together weigh it at around 250 lbs. and deliver over 700 watts of glorious tube sound ...and just think how warm that'd be during the long cold winter:D

wow, this amp its my dream. It is incredible what McIntosh as tubes not designed for audio has been done. No better built audiotransformer as McIntosh.

That's a pretty funny review - I wouldn't really think the Bose 901 would be what I'd want to hear these with.

What a waste of potential....

The 6LQ6 were BPT for line amplifier on TV. Accordingly, they were in big quantities inexpensively manufactured. Only a few have done it so that an audio power amplifier to build, none was as good as the McIntosh.

Here the technical data

http://www.pmillett.com/file_downloads/McIntosh/MI350.pdf

The MI350 is the commercial version of the MC3500, the same as with JBL 2405 and 077.

I know some reggae guys who use those for their pa's down in jamacia, they are as common as a Crown DC300 down there. $20k is nuts for a pair of them.

The comment about 'the reggae guys' is ridiculous. First off only a couple hundred were built from '68 to '71. Nothing that rare can be "as common as a DC300" by definition. Also it's unlikely he is even talking about the mono, tube Mc3500 or Mi350. He is probably talking about the similar looking Mc2300, which is a stereo SS amp. And third the sound of the 350/3500 is legendary. They have consistently sold for $20,000+ per pair since the '80s. I have heard two different "megabuck systems" using these, both of which produce amazing sound, where the owners could easily afford ANY amp they wanted. Many consider this the finest tube amp ever built, and it still the pinnacle of tube amp design.

Check out the date on the post about the "reggae guys." It was from six years ago.

I was aware when I posted that it was an old thread. Couldn't help myself, I just hate it when the last post on a topic is as ridiculous as that one was.
