Depends on what your definition of "cheap" is - $100 a pair? $250? $500?

Word of warning - don't post this 3 times!
Just post once (delete the other 2 threads) and wait overnight for some replies, ok?

I've got a '96 T-Bird that I've installed JBL's early GTO series of speakers in. Even though factory says 6x8, it's the 5x7 JBL's you want - they drop right in. Not completely familiar with their current series...

Hmm, will other 5 X 7's fit right in? Is that the size for all 4 speakers?

Thanks John! :applaud:

Hmm, will other 5 X 7's fit right in? Is that the size for all 4 speakers? Most should. It seems that 6x8 was a common nomenclature, (marketing?), that Ford used, but most 5x7 speakers have slotted mounting holes that account for this. Go to http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/autoinfo/autoinfo.asp?sl=Y&vb=Y&lp=%2fApp%2fProduct%2fCategory%2fGroupMenu.aspx%3f g%3d399%26c%3d3%26tp%3d12 and plug your car in, and you can see the speakers that fit.

BTW - the GTO series listed should also fit the front, even though they only mention rear.

Thanks John, I'll look into it.. Is there a separate place to ask questions about car audio here?

Thanks John, I'll look into it.. Is there a separate place to ask questions about car audio here? Not really. This place is more focused on the larger home and studio series Lansing speakers, though some of us use their car audio also. I imagine a google search for "car audio forum" would likely present several results - I know they're out there, but have never felt the need to check them out myself...

I just checked eBay prices for the JBL GTO8627 5x7-6x8 speakers, and while Crutchfields has them listed at $99/pair, average price on eBay is under $35/pair, new: http://search-desc.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&catref=C6&ftrv=1&ftrt=1&from=R10&fstype=1&satitle=jbl+gto8627&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&fts=2&sabfmts=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&sass=&fsop=2%26fsoo%3D2&fgtp=

They're a decent speaker - I'm using their older version in my T-Bird. They don't have thunderous bass or anything, but definitely better than stock.
