Uh ... :screwy:?

There are three recordings, which have always pleased me because of their joyful music playing and high standard of recording technique. They are by different groups - but all recorded in Sweden.

1) The Electric Prunes Stockholm 67
CD rerelease 2001. Fresh playing, good climax in concert, no deficiencies worth to mention about this old live recording.

2) Benny Goodman Stockholm 1972
Although I really love Goodmans Carnegie Hall Concert (1938), for me the Stockholm concert is superior. Goodman is at least as good as ever, fine musicians (who are unfortunately not mentioned on the cover), and recorded on a high technical level (Phase4 stereo).

3) Deep Purple Live in Stockholm 1970
Formerly released as Scandinavian Nights this one is newly remixed and remastered.
I was looking for something new of Deep Purple well knowing that you can buy the same again and again with only minor changes. On Amazon I read some good reviews and I gave it a try. Once I was wondering whether there can be a more exciting concert than "DP made in Tokio". Yes they did it themselves and it was two years before.
They are playing long versions like furies. They seem to be willing to brake any limits which are set my rythm and melodie. So this old music is as good as something completely new for me.

The Stockholm's audiences always applaud generously not saying frenetic - and this in the cool north  .

TDK DVD Video has released

Count Basie Live in '62 (http://www.amazon.com/DVWW-JICOB-Count-Basie-Sweden-Icons/dp/B000H9HWQY/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top)

under the label "Jazz Icons" in the year 2006.
This concert was filmed by SVT (Swedish Television) on April 24, 1962 (Black and white, mono). Sound and picture is good, concider the age.
An excerpt from the 16 page booklet:

During the '50s and '60 s most of the European TV stations were government-controlled and did not depend on ad revenues. They could therefore allow these artists the luxory of performing concerts of an hour or more, expressing their music on a deeper level.
It is a delight to listen to the effortless and precise play of the various artists.
There is a great drum solo in "Old Man River" by Sonny Payne. And it is more amusing due to the movie. :)

There is a whole series of Jazz Icons videos available now .. I saw a Bill Evans video through Netflicks last year - and earlier this week while looking up Quincy Jones, I saw a mention of him reviewing his 1962 concert tour which also wound up as a DVD -
There are now 3 distinct series of these films - available in sets or separately:

http://jazzicons.com/

Bill Evans, Live in Sweden:
Jazz Icons: Bill Evans features five separate performances by one of the most revered pianists in music history. This collection covers an 11-year span, highlighting Evans’ ever-deepening artistry as he performs with four different all-star rhythm sections, including the stunning duo of bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and drummer Alan Dawson. This DVD includes for the first time on home video Evans’ renditions of the rarely performed “Sareen Jurer,” “Blue Serge” and “Twelve Tone Tune Two.” Among the many surprises in this collection is a live performance of “My Melancholy Baby” with saxophonist Lee Konitz.
