So I just picked up a pair of Infinity Column II's and was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with them. One out of the 4 woofers is not a match to the rest but for the time being I am going to refoam the woofers. I am interested to hear them. I have heard mixed reviews. I guess for free I cant really complain. If they arent to my liking then I can always use the cabinets for something else. Any ideas on woofer upgrades for any Infinity speakers, I have not done too much with their products other than refoaming for customers and its normally their cheaper speakers.

i recently got a pair from my uncle, he has since replaced all 4 woofers with new ones from radio shack. Let me say that they really hit hard, when volume cranked half way up, my clothes flutter. They definitely r as loud as a ported box, and will give one a run for the money. Also the bass seems pretty good, but i have bass and treble dials on my reciever. I would buy another set if i can find some.

They are an amazingly good loudspeaker, articulate as Hell, even when played so loud as to the point of pain. They'll take all the good, clean power you can give them with no sense of strain or topping out whatsoever. The little mylar "ice cream cone" super tweeter doesn't like too high current though (I learned this the hard way), so make sure you have good caps in the network and maybe even add some sort of resister or fuse to be safe if you plan on pushing them hard; and they most definitely sound good when pushed, so it will be tempting. All that Walsh style tweeter is is a 1" dome with the cone attached. The metal tube is simply there for extra protection in shipping and handling.
Works nicely, adds ambiance but it's not rocket science. If you look down the throat of the cone you can see where most of the dome was cut away by hand and the cone simply glued in place to act as a sort of transmission line. If you have 2 good ones I'd suggest changing them out with any decent, generic 1" metal dome for daily use and preserve the originals. They fetch good money from people restoring old Infinitys that want all authentic parts. The modern dome will give you most if not all of the effect and you won't have to worry about harming the originals.
I suggest this in case you ever wanted to sell them. They'll bring much more with working originals.
They make a good speaker all the way around with a strong suit in Rock and Roll.
Enjoy them!

you are joking ? do you understand the walsh driver ? Here is some help, your hf is the inverted hf part of the full range driver, but still radiates off the outside of the cone.

Nope, not joking at all, dude.
The driver you provide the illustrated "principles" article for is the real deal as implemented by Ohm Acoustics and others.

The "Walsh" style tweeters used by Infinity (which is what is being discussed here) in the early to mid 1970s were sort of a fast and loose interpretation. I have spoken with John Strohbeen regarding these drivers as used by Infinity and Ohm's only involvement was to license them the technology. Someone else provided these drivers to Infinity, or maybe they were even "created" in house from Peerless off the shelf drivers, I don't know.

But if you will read my original post, and then go find yourself an old INFINITY "Walsh" ice cream cone "super" tweeter and examine it, you will see that I am absolutely correct and right in everything I wrote.

And then you can come back and apologize to me for trying to be such a smart guy and show everyone what a dumb ass I am with your little emoticon and copy and paste job.
