View Full Version : 2 questions re. 5235 Xover cards

I just obtained a 5235 crossover, this particular one came with a set of 51-5334 cards for 2380 type horns. The 2 questions I have are:

- I've seen here graphs of the electical response of these cards, but does anyone know what values need to be changes in the networks to change their frequency range? These were the 1200 original but were changed to a 1500 Hz Xover point, I was wondering if it could be possible to change it to a lower 600 or 700 Hz, or would it screw things up completely?

- standard question, is there an accessible source for standard 12 or 18 db cards? I need to work out the best option for my system, which will be around 600 Hz and would like to experiment with these, but there are not so easy to come by around here,

Thanks,

It would be great to get this information together about the stock cards that were made, at least. Then, if someone could point out where there is information for other frequencies, as there was for uncompensated cards, or demonstrate how to make one for custom frequencies, that would be exceptional.

I can give photos and values for the 500, 1200 and 1600Hz 18 dB/octave cards. I would like to have the numbers for 800 Hz. There were also 12 dB cards for 500 and 800.

A faster and perhaps better road to this particular Rome, if you can use 24 dB/octave slopes, would be the M552 and 553 crossovers, which can provide the FFBREQ with dip switches (or jumpers?), and, of course, you can dial in your frequency.

How about posting the appropriate pages from the manual as start?

May be this thread is interesting:

As has been noted a number of times here, the information for the 12 and 18 dB uncompensated cards at varous crossover frequencies is available in the manuals, online at JBL PRO, for the 5234A and 5235.

Not only are the values different for the FFBREQ cards, the cards are different. It's a different circuit. Calculating the values for the compensated cards may be a bit more involved.

OK. Let's complete that thread. I'll do some work on this tomorrow.

Edit: I've just posted the values for the 1600 Hz FFBREQ card on the earlier thread cited by RobH above. Anything further I have on this will be posted there, just to keep it in one place.
