View Full Version : 2441 Mid Driver Throat Repair Question

Hello,

When I searched the forums for posts about 2441 throat repair; all the posts were several years old. Even then, there was some question about parts availability. I have a pair with cracks in the throats that were slamming against each other in transit. (2 sheets of bubble wrap between them)

Is there a JBL service center in the San Francisco Bay Area that can do it, or should I ship them out and to who? Are the throats still available? About how much will it cost to have the drivers restored less diaphragms?

Thank you,
Mark

They have to be demaged and remaged to fix them. You should call a JBL service center and see if they can do it or if they simply ship to JBL. You could just give JBL Pro Service a call and cut out the middle man. They may take them direct.

I think those broken throats mean the magnets have moved. They will need to be demagged, repaired and remagged. I'm not aware of a remagger in SF Bay area. PM member edgewound in So Cal. He's the man on repairs.

Is there a JBL service center in the San Francisco Bay Area...I had a pair of 2441s that were similarly damaged in shipping about 4-5 years ago and I sent them to JBL. There they were fully rebuilt and tested... I ended up buying new diaphragms too as the otherwise excellent looking 2441 diaphragms didn't pass JBL QC... the whole thing cost about $700 for the pair, but at the end of the day I essentially had a pair of newly remanufactured 2441s.

Well, I guess that leaves JBL Pro, as Widget and RobH said.

Wrong answer John!!!!

Pro parts....not consumer. There is much overlap with pro and consumer with the vintage products.

I had a call into Pro customer service on the availability of driver throats for the old alnico drivers...for you, as a matter of fact...and guess what? They're not always available....and answers to their availability often go either unanswered or unknown. Some parts aren't available outside the factory, either....it's known as "FSO" or "Factory Service Only".

I still don't have the answer for you. Dave Wheeler in Pro customer service is a very busy guy...and very patient with regards to his resources. His answers are often times at the mercy of engineering, purchasing, management, etc.

JBL Pro Customer Service isn't interested in supplying Canadians with free parts.:D I hope your sense of humor is engaged today.;)

You are incorrect. My business is listed on the JBL Pro Customer Service website.

I don't think I would get that info confused. JBL Pro put me in business. I no longer do warranty service for the consumer division.

I sent a copy of our PM exchange on that subject to refresh your memory.
