A buddy closed up his studio and has a pair of these in his garage now, stored. I have told him I may be interested in them.
Opinions on them in general??
Idea of value?
He bought them new from JBL.

Big and black!

They go for about the same price as a pair of used 4430s. I'd rather have the 4430s.

The "C" is supposed to be the best of the bunch, but I have never heard any 813 to confirm that. It does seem intriguing given the drivers that were used. Depending on the age, the coax is either a 2425 or 2426 mounted to the rear of an E145. The auxilliary woofer is a 2215H, otherwise known as an LE15H.

I have heard others comment that the 4430 is better than any of the UREI series, however I can't offer an opinion since I don't have direct experience. Pricing for the 813 has been significantly higher than the 4430's from what I have seen on Ebay. There have been a number of 813's go in the $2,000/pr range where 4430's are generally half that at around $1,000/pr.

I wouldn't pay anywhere near $2000 for them; maybe 500-1000.00

I heard them in his studio once but couldn't really evaluate them as I wasn't familiar with the source at all.

I probably won't buy them, as it looks like the market value is $1500++ and not worth it to me. I don't want to "steal" them from him, and he ain't real stupid anyway.

You can always move them if you're not satisfied with them. UREI 809, 811, 813, and 815s all retain their value and command very nice prices due to their use in so many studios.

Hey Mike

I have an 811C as my center channel. Uses the same coax driver. Damn thing weighs a ton! Very nice driver, vocals are great through it. 813 are big mothers. If I could get my hands on a set of 811C's at a decent price I would go for them. Make one hell of a front end for HT with subs!! The 2344 is a nicer horn than the Urie. With the Urie you need to be on axis. If I had a choice between 813's and 4430 I would go for the 4430's

Rob:)
