I have a pair of JBL 4428. I am impressed with the sound quality. But I am not 100% impressed with the build quality.
You can see 2 pieces making the horns. The joint is not looking very good and uniform.

I'm certainly seeing the recent contoured throat design there. Compare to 4348:

That's how the two-piece horns are, apparently.

The material (Sonoglas?) may just be difficult to mold.

There's also a gasket between the two parts.

Have I thought about filling it? Yes.

Am I going to actually do it? Unlikely....

if you file them smooth, are they then custom refined versions;
that could then be sold on Ebay for high dollar?

:banghead:

IE would it make a difference? would this help prevent the sound from reflecting in the horn when it hit the rough spots?

:D

"Filling," not filing.

Bondo, repaint, never take apart again.

Forget it. That don't happen here..... :p

You could go with a real man's horn and use Altec 511B's as they don't have that issue! ;)

Just kiddin' of course. :D

But I am not 100% impressed with the build quality.Yeah... it's been a common theme though.

Yeah... it's been a common theme though.

It wasn't that funny, and these aren't bad sounding horns when properly set up. :)

It wasn't that funny, and these aren't bad sounding horns when properly set up. :)I merely chuckled. It wasn't one of those Rolling On The Floor Laughing Out Loud kind of things. I find the construction quality mentioned above mildly irritating.

Give me a call when you get the chance. Our middle-man has not answered his phone lately. So I have no clue if you both met up with the wood horns or not!
