I have seen a few very nice but Vintage Rotel Receivers.
This unit appears to be fairly new and I have heard very little about Rotels more recent offerings.

As with alot of this gear, some companies attempt to keep going on the accomplishments of the past and the good name they once had.

Take Altec for instance! Altec Technologies is a far cry from the Altec we know and love.
Luxman is another with an excellent track record in the past but I don't hear much from them today since they are not selling in the US.

I would love to hear some input regarding Rotel of today.

They change hands here in the UK for about £800. Retail was about £2,000 I think.

I'd personally spend the extra a get and Bryston or similar, better resale and (probably) build quality.

Do amps really need to be THAT big these days, it's "only" 380wpc which is not that big a number anymore. Good to impress your friends I guess. :)

I think Rotel still enjoys a good reputation. The amps have received good reviews and recommendations from picky Stereophile in the past five years or so. A lot of folks get their panties in a twist over this stuff:

Rotel vs. Parasound
Rotel vs. Adcom
Rotel vs. NAD
Rotel vs. etc.

I think the level at which knuckleheads fight over this stuff places it in the Pantheon just below Krell, Bryston, Levinson, Etc. in the high end consumer space. I think it's all bullshit, except for my Hafler pro amps, of course. :rotfl:

I'm not a fan of Rotel but this particular amp has had nothing short of good reviews. It will drive almost any speaker. Only complaint is that it runs warm when driving something that runs at 4 ohm are less. It's a tank. I'd buy one in a heartbeat at $750!!!

I just picked up a matched pair of Rotel RB-980BX locally that I'm running Bridged at 360WPC each for $350 for the set, about what they're going on e-pay less shipping. That puppy is at $860 right now. Seems a zealous n00b is driving up the price when it could probably have been sniped for less.

They're very precise and crisp amps, utterly not as warm as my 80's Yamaha SS gear (M80 bridged pair, an M70 and my original M4 in other rooms.) I currently have the Rotels running the 4310's in my home office. They do a smashing job of pointing out bad recordings, almost to the point of annoyance.
