I have 2 - 8 ohm resistors piggy backed with the ends twisted, placed across each woofer and I noticed that the mid bass is cleaner, but the woofer output is reduced. When I attached the resistors end to end across the woofers, the bass was louder. Does anyone know why this happens? I'm still using 16 ohms across each woofer to match them to an 8 ohm crossover.

Which hook up is correct?

The two "piggy-backed" 8s make 4 Ohms. Read up the fundamentals:

If your woofer is a JBL 16 Ohms, it's likely 8 anyway. Measure the DC resistance to be certain. If it's around 6 Ohms, it's really 8. Real 16s are going to measure up at 11 - 12 Ohms.

Thank you Zilch, for the input and the link. My woofers are JBL 2205s (Alnico) and they measure 14 ohms.
